Which is your favorite Kong movie? 33', 76' or 05'?

Postby GodzillaDude » Mon May 21, 2012 4:47 pm

Which was/is the best version of the King Kong movie?

The 1933 version? If so why...

The 1976 version? If so why...

The 2005 version? If so why...

For me it is a tie between the original 1933 masterpiece and the very good 2005 Peter Jackson version. I love the original for the fights that the other versions don't have like with the Snake & Pterodactyl, I loved the sequence with Kong killing some of the natives when he got through the wall door, I also enjoyed the actor who played Denham.

I like the 2005 Peter Jackson version because of the great memorable fight Kong has with all those V-Rex, the more in-depth bonding and emotion between Kong & Ann, the remarkable CGI quality and Jack Black was fun to watch in it, I also enjoyed the bugs after the log scene, I also loved how Kong fought in this one and still managed to keep Ann safe very fancy. The only thing I don't like about this is how they made Kong look exactly like a bigger version of a Silver-back Gorilla I prefer him to be a bit more humanoid at times and have a more creative look than just a big Gorilla.

The 2005 version. Amazing graphics and this version gave us a true in-depth to Kong and Ann.

I agree. I felt that it added an extra needed element to their relationship and I liked how Ann showed so much emotion to Kong when he was fighting or in danger especially towards the end.

For me its a tie between the 1933 original & the 1976 remake. The 1933 film is pretty damn entertaining and it had some pretty amazing effects for its time and Kong's fight with the T-Rex was classic and the score was pretty damn epic & powerful. The 1976 remake is pretty good as well. While pretty long at times, it can be very watchable but some of the effects are kinda *shudders* but I liked the King Kong suit that was used for the film and I loved Kong's roar but one thing about this film I don't like is that there is zero dino fights.

The 2005 remake IMO isn't really good. In fact it is quite dull and the acting was very, very dull but I do like that Kong & Ann's relationship was expanded upon but other than that it wasn't a fun or enjoyable film

I feel the newest movie really drove Kong home as an intelligent, sympathetic creature.

'33 without a question. Best representation of Kong first of all. And it conveys its themes without being heavy-handed like the Jackson version is, IMO.

All the people who claim the '05 remake brought all sorts of definition to Kong/Ann are silly. Because it really didn't, and what it did was already there in the '76 remake.

Plus, the '05 remake is a good 45 minutes too long (or rather, 45 minutes too poorly paced).

The '33 original isn't that exciting. It's retrospectively pretty generic and the only real part I react in a strong positive fashion to is the humorous fact that the brontosaurus chomps down on more humans than anyone else.

The '76 remake? All sorts of unintential funniness. It's so bad, and so good. I really enjoy how terrible it is.

I haven't seen the '76 film yet.

Although the original is a fun monster-action film, I think the 2005 film fleshed out the story more. It has its flaws, but ultimately I think Peter Jackson's remake was an improvement, so it gets my vote. The original is certainly not to be ignored, though.

The original easily is the best a masterpiece.
The 1976 one well...of the three it has to be the "Worst" of them but still good in its own right. (Considering that this was the
first of the Three that i watched)
The Remake of Peter Jackson its good in being that a Remake...it adds more "Deepness" and better SPX...not better than the
original for me but i can watch it lots of times and be entertained.

The '70s remake is lame. Kong without dinosaurs?

So my votes go to the original and Jackson's film.

Yeah it did bring more to the relationship between Kong and Ann. Something that wasn't that emphasized that much at all in the original. In Jackson's film it actually showed them bonding and makes you more so understand why Ann would care about him and vice versa. That relationship aspect was hardly there at all in the original. But I do love the original 1933 masterpiece just as much as the 2005 version.

Although I don't care to much for the 76' version mainly due to the unimpressive suit and it seemed more dull than the other versions.

I can't even fathom how badly screwed up 1976 is. You'd have to go well out of your way to screw up a movie that has King Kong AND Jeff Bridges in it.

Original's the best. 2005 is a fan fiction with a budget.

What? No love for King Kong Lives??

Anyway, I agree with most people here. the 1933 original is my favorite, but the 2005 PJ version is a very well done remake I enjoy as well.

I completely disagree. In the 1976 version, Dwan definitely develops sympathy/affection for Kong, which is a big change from the 1933 version where Ann wanted absolutely nothing to do with Kong.

But the 2005 version defines the relationship between the two characters very differently. In the Jackson film, the main characters never interrupt Kong's "wedding ceremony"-- a key scene in both the 33 and 76 versions-- and that throws out the love/stalker theme which is central to the previous versions. Instead of the "Bride of Kong" story, the 05 film creates a familial bond between Kong and Ann; early on it is established that Ann has lost everyone she has ever cared about, and later in the film we see that Kong has lost his family as well. After Ann stands up to Kong on Skull Island he lets her go (something that never happens in previous versions), during and after the V-Rex battle she chooses to stay with Kong (and his facial expressions show he understands that), and during his NYC rampage she seeks him out (rather than run away like in 1933 and 1976). And at the end, Ann considers following Kong to her death until Driscoll literally calls her back from the edge.

One of the many reasons I like the 2005 KING KONG so much is that it captures the heart of the original version but subtly twists the elements so the end result feels the same but is actually quite different. The movie is uneven and has its fair share of warts but its a lot more clever than some people give it credit for.

I voted it #2, with the 1933 version at the top spot. The 1976 version is a mess with a number of good/interesting scenes that keep it from being a total loss.

I really need to see the original 33 film.

I saw the 2005 film back in the theater. I'm sorry, but I found it incredibly dull and boring. One whole hour went by without any sign of Kong. It just dragged on too much, and the characters weren't really that good in my opinion. The only scene I really liked was the fight between Kong and the V-Rex.

Rather, I'll amend my vague-ish statement to say that the '05 remake expands upon what the '76 remake started. I'm ok with that, just not with the claim that the '05 remake started it.

Long live the '76 hippie bullshit version! Shaggy "biologists" will save the day!

Even still my points still can be used when comparing the 75' and 05' versions. The 76' version may started it but Peter Jackson's expanded on it much more for sure.
