This should be treated like a big sci-fi property like Star Trek, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and The Thing.

The idea that Godzilla destroys Japan at the beginning of the film is sheer genius

Set him up as a destructive force feared by everyone but by the end of movie is he is the one you root for.

I'd more or less expect this movie to be done by winter 2013.

I think this is a fair date to be had.

was G84 really a serious movie because all signs pointed to Godzilla being stupid. And I'll go with G54 is the best g film in the comunity but how can we say GMK and or G84 are the second and third best?

It's all opinion based anyway. G54, RoG, Biollante, and GMK are my favorites in that order, but other people prefer DAM, Mothra, Destroyah, Sea Monster, or countless others. That's part of what makes Godzilla great; he's so versatile.

I saw Edwards' Monsters a little while back.

I liked it, though I didn't care too much for the characters, and I think the creatures could have had a stronger presence.

Watching it though, I really hope he doesn't implore that style to Godzilla.

The movie I want to see is something along the lines of the Japanese films, but mostly from the people's point of view, like Cloverfield, but without the "found footage" device. I would love to see Godzilla take on another monster.... Mothra personally, but I doubt it... and really get both the scales of their size and their destruction as they fight in a city, with countless people trying to get away.

What I don't want is something like Monsters and Super 8, where the film is really about something else, and Godzilla is hardly in it.

Gareth Edwards has already stated that ''Godzilla'' will be completely different then ''Monsters'' and in another interview i believe with Thomas Tull it said they know why an what your paying to see an it's Godzilla. Godzilla is an will be the star of the film.. They already said Godzilla will take on at-least 1 or more monsters.. personally i hope NONE are Mothra but that's just me.

An (Monsters) as Edwards says was about the people, not about the monsters or aliens which is why there so limited, Super 8 i found crappy but was more of a tribute to Spielberg's 70s/80's Sci-Fi classics, an the found footage of Cloverfield was to me crap. Thankfully Godzilla wont be found footage or else i wouldn't even pay to see it, I'll stand alone in this statement but i'd rather have another GINO then a Cloverfield style Godzilla film.

To me, the issues of Super 8 was that it played too much on nostalgia, and this is coming from a fan of Spielberg's works, and that it didn't really have logical story structure. And by that, I mean that when the train crash happens, the "making the movie" subplot should have taken a backburner to what should have been the main story.

I understand what he was doing with Monsters, but I really didn't like the characters, and political messages of the film seemed were a bit forced upon us. The creatures, however, were stunning. But when they aren't on the screen, they didn't have much of a presence. These characters are going through what was built up to be a dangerous trip, and they make all too easy with only a couple of encounters, and a lot of scenes of pushing political viewpoints, which would have been fine, if I actually liked the characters, and the film had delivered make 20% more Monsters, and there was a sense of danger the entire time.

Another movie I can think of is Signs, which was all build up and no payoff, and the excuse is "well, it's not about the aliens, it is about his loss of faith." Fine and dandy, but you should still deliver the goods. Characters and stories are supposed to develop alongside one another, that is if they aren't going for just either or. I think Super 8 really failed at that.

I liked Cloverfield though. So far, there have only been two found footage films that I have been fully immensed in when watching, and it's one of them. The Last Exorcism was the other. I really don't care for watching doors cringe open and people sleepwalking for two hours.

^God I'm so mixed on that movie. Totally off-topic, but there's things I liked and I liked most of the cast, however somebody just completely missed the boat on several things; the music, the atmosphere, and holy $#!^, that last act?!? God, if there was one thing we never, ever needed to see was the inside of the ship. Carpenter was so much smarter than this movie and knew exactly what we needed to see/know and what we don't. Seeing the inside of the ship was kind of like seeing Michael Myers without his mask; just completely unnecessary.

Sorry guys, I'll let you get back OT.

I love Super 8. It was a Great Movie. Cloverfield was nice too, but Hud & his shaky Camera was annoying.

The new Godzilla Movie should be rather serious, but not too dark & depressing.

I have yet to see the new Thing, but my best friend said that he liked the old space ship better. What did the interior look like? Are there any photo's out there?

Sorry to get off subject, but I am curious.

No news, but just a statement from Edwards himself. If anything, this shows us that the project is not dead. Here's something for all the doubting debbies.
