Its not a blast. its irritating.

Well, that's like, your opinion, man.

I think this movie is absolutely off the wall, but in the worst way possible. It's not very fun at all, to be honest. It's just far too long, and doesn't deliver enough of the goods. The Hollywood references are lame, and the abundance of action scenes involving the human(oid) characters is really tiresome. The motorcycle sequence is my least favorite scene in any Godzilla film ever. It's so skreeonk stupid.

You're just left wanting so much more after seeing those scenes with the monsters. Kitamura could have saved the film by at least giving them the screen time they deserved. Maybe an overabundance of monster scenes could have at least elevated this film from shit status, even if everything else about it mostly stayed the same.

The monsters deserved more screen time of course, but I thought they did appear frequently enough to keep the viewer watching. And even when they're not there, it's a fun change of pace to have the humans on the fighting side I thought.

The action scenes are too short to enjoy, and anything else about GFW that would be entertaining is stolen from other films. The characters are unlikable and almost un-relatable, the story is drawn-out and dull, and everything about the film is just handled with a sense of confusion and uncertainty, like the creators weren't exactly sure what they were doing.

All of these things add up to make a boring and badly made film.

Don Frye's character seemed the only likeable one in the cast.

...Yes, the guy who disobeys direct orders, who looks for any excuse to fight someone or something, has no real character to speak of (let alone development), and says nothing but awful one liners is likable.

Captain Gordon is certainly more un-relatable than he is unlikable. He's just too far removed from reality.

Thus the reason I like him. Lashes out at any attempt to control him on general principle, violently aggressive like a territorial animal, and possessing the vocabulary of a pull-string action figure. He's a giant monster in a human suit. ;)

I'm still amazed every time somebody brings up a positive about Kitamura's film, there's always the need from people to shoot down what that person says. Every bleeping time.

"Oh I think the film is fun" "NO IT'S NOT! IT'S BORING!"
"Oh I like the Michael Bay filters" "NO! THEY'RE EYESORE!"
"Oh I think I it's a nice Showa tribute" "NO! IT'S A FREAKING INSULT!"

Seriously, people.
Every film should have at least one animal attack.

At least Rodan is fast again.

Too bad he's been nerfed.

Yup. It's the only reason this thread is as long as it is. Believe it or not, it's OK for people to like different movies than you.

Just got done watching this movie again with some friends.
We all enjoyed it, but yeah that New York part could have been left out.

The parts that copy other movies tend not to bother me much, but that might be because I never like The Matrix and the others.

I think in 30 years time this movie will be loved simliar to how we love Showa movies.
Sit back and relax.
