For my gold Gigabrain KG I used a contact in Japan who is neither a dealer nor a collector. I paid him 1200 yen extra on top of everything else.

Figure cost 15,750
local shipping 650

actual cost 16,400 then 1200 yen for his trouble. I can't say how much it is to ship it since I had a whole bunch of other crap in a huge box.

let's say 80 yen exchange rate. 17,600 yen = $220

Now, Monsterarts figures?

King Ghidorah 12,000
Space Godzilla 6000

That's 18,000 yen = $225

the shipping would be slightly more for the gigabrain but considering how relatively heavy the monsterarts figures are as opposed to hollow vinyl, it should be a wash.

When we're comparing the prices of monsterarts to Gigabrain, you can't make any comparison without using the upcoming monsterarts King Ghidorah. Saying you could buy monsterarts godzilla and little godzilla and rodan, etc. instead of the gigabrain KG is the same as me saying I can buy two gigabrain godzilla/jet jaguar/gigan figures for the price of 1 monsterarts king ghidorah.

Or we don't compare them at all and let everyone collect what they like...speaking to myself here too :)

Wut. You can get a Gigabrain Gigan and Godzilla for 4900 yen before shipping? Because I thought SHM Ghids was 9800 yen...

And if you can get two for the price of one SHM Ghidorah please point out where. I would love to have some Gigabrains. Particularly Gigan and Godzilla.

Anyways I'll probably never get a Gigabrain Ghidorah for the same reason I won't get an X Plus 30cm figure. I just can't justify the cost. That doesn't mean I can't appreciate it for how beautiful it is. Like art is sometimes beautiful. I don't collect art though. I collect action figures.

well the retail price is 12,000 yen for the monsterarts KG. whatever it ends up being in actuality is anyone's guess.

the gigabrains come out in japan at around 5000 yen base cost. they're mail order from gigabrain itself. i'm not talking about the show exclusives which are only sold at the tables of the show in question. I'm talking about conventional releases of the figure.

I have never seen that price anywhere. When it was given a release month earlier this year, everyone mentioned the price tag at $125, or ~10290 yen.

12000 yen is ~$150.

It was shown on the white character announcement card at Tamashii Features Vol.3 in March. Calculate -27% from that at amiami.com.

And everywhere I've seen report on it said it was 10290 yen. I've never seen 12000 yen. Nowhere has it up for preorder yet.

With %27 off from 10,290 yen, the price is 6483 yen-about $81.
12,000 yen with %27 off is 7560-about $94.

Planetx, I get what you're saying, but let's try to avoid a big fight here. This thread is still pretty good, so let's salvage it.

Anyway, I can't wait for my Gigabrain stuff to come in. I hope it's been shipped. :D

Gotcha.

But following this entire thread-what starts out as an appreciation for The Gigabrain line turns into a comparison to the 'other' line.
I myself am waiting for the arrival of Mike's Ghidorah so that I can see it in person.

And conversely, the Monsterarts thread has fell to comparison with other lines, including but not limited to- Bandai's regular, Marmit Vinyl Paradise, random King-Scale and DX figures, Revoltechs. Comparison with other oy lines is totally normal, flamebaiting is totally unnecesarry/

I was about the say the same thing PlanetXman. If I went into the SH thread and started spouting how much better GB is than SH (or trying to turn the focus to GB), SH fans would usually go apeshit and call for me to be warned/banned. Yet certain SH collectors *ALWAYS* do this in other threads (I just started a Marmit Appreciation thread yesterday, and it's *already* being turned a "SH/realistic figures vs Marmit" comparison thread as well. Sorry folks, but you can't have it both ways.

They're two completely different kinds of figures in completely different scales, and comparing them is pointless. Those those who wonder why many collectors have quickly grown annoyed with the SH "hype" machine need to look no further than what's happening in threads like this.

When folks are ready to actually get back to discussing "Gigabrain" again in this thread, let me know...otherwise, please go start a "Gigabrain/Marmit vs SH" thread where you can flame away...

Again, comparison is normal. Remember when Legion pulled out that huge pic of all his Mechagodzillas (which sort of set the MA thread on a path of eternal derailment)? Or for that matter, when Legion, Jomei, and you brought up the Monsterrats when you got your GB Ghidorah? I could go on, but accusing us of being the only ones doing so is having a double-standard.

I hears' ya' ! I think as far as different toy lines go, there is room for everything here. Whether it be Bandai, Marmit, Marusan, X-Plus or whatever. There is no need to compare. You like what you like and that's it.
And there certainly is no need to piss on somebody's corn flakes.

I said that I felt that the GB figure would hard to top from *all* other companies (Xplus, SH, Pilot Ace, etc)....and guess which line's fans were the only ones who got butt hurt buy this statement?

Secondly, I said this in a GB thread...I didn't go over to the MA thread and say this (and if I were to do so...then too bad, as SH fans constantly do this in other threads).

Finally...you're damn right I've been critical of certain aspects (costs, quality control, small size, etc.) and over-hyping of the SH line (as have other collectors), as collectors of that line have made it a ritual habit of declaring it the greatest line ever while disparaging other lines *numerous times*. I remember Legion's posts, and he was posting the MG photo more as a response to the attitude among SH collectors that the SH line "has no equal" and eveything else bascially is irrelevant...I don't see collectors of other lines doing this.

And guess what? I am also critical of other lines as well (see my most recent criticisms of Marmit in the Marmit Appreciation thread of Marmit's figures post 2007). I can be a fan of certain lines while also being objective as well...the difference is that you will never see me whining for a "warning/ban" or acting like my mother was insulted if someone doesn't like the same figures/lines that I do.

I've said my peace on this matter...if you feel like getting "the last word" in, then have it, I'm moving on....
