Hooray! Someone else who knows this guy. Yeah I brought him up on another board and people were like "This is giant monsters not horror, idiot". Cause apparently people think he only did music for Silent Hill and nothing else.

He could come up with some pretty emotional tunes for if and when they show effects monster rampages have had on peoples lives, namely the loss of homes and loved ones.

Hans Zimmer or John Williams. Steve Jablonsky is ok too.

The Elf-Man has done plenty of stuff besides the usual "lalalalalala deedly deedly BOM BOM" Tim Burton stuff... he'd actually probably be an all right fit for a G movie, especially considering his scores for Men in Black, Spider-Man and (the awful) Planet of the Apes remake from '01 (movie was awful, music was pretty killer). If he's good enough for the goddamn Batman, he's good enough for Godzilla. Not my first choice, but I am curious as to how that would pan out.

If I recall correctly, Elfmen did some pretty cool stuff for Fable as well. Though I probably wouldn't think of him to make giant monster music.

If there's one thing no one can deny, it's that his work is definitely evocative. Whether he's doing action games or horror (or both, like Shadows of the Damned), the music really pulls the vibe of the thing together. That's what Godzilla needs, distinctive music to bolster the attitude of the story.

There's no way John Williams is doing this. I'd eat a litter of kittens if that were announced.

Anyway, Jon Hopkins scored Monsters so what about him?

Yes, let's not even bother creating a fresh, new, original score, and instead once more recycle the works of a dead composer.

You wanna shoot that dead horse while you're at it? I mean, I like Ifukube as much as the next guy but for skreeonk sakes, it's 2012 now, I think it's time that we move on.

Stelvio Cipriani might be a good choice:

Can you imagine something like that playing over the monsters fighting?

I don't care if it's 2012, 3050, or 1954. Godzilla without Ifukube is like layer cake without layers.

If that's the case then this franchise needs to go on a diet.

This attitude will kill any franchise dead.

Fresh material, as a general rule, whether it's good or bad, will reinvigorate a property either by reaffirming what absolutely works or by showing something from a new perspective.

Reijiro Koroku would like to have a word with you. As much as I love Ifukube's work, hearing his themes slapped onto a modern film garners more eye rolls rather than cheers.

I think I've said this before, but don't tell me if this ends with a rendition of Ifukube's theme that you guys would honestly be pissed about it.

I wouldn't mind if he's music is used in the end credits along with Zebra Heads Godzilla vs Tokyo (seriously Blue Olster Cults Godzilla song is way overrated) but not in the actual film itself, I need a break. Let someone make a new theme in the U.S. film that hopefully captures that "Godzilla" vibe but still be new and fresh.

That's what I mean. I thought the classic theme at the end of GMK was very cool. Even the new Star Trek movie did something similar. It has its own sound yet at the end Giacchino brought in the original TV show theme.
