I recall seeing something about a release on Steam. Any sort of truth/plans to this?

Until this project is approved by Toho, we don't know. But it's a possibility.

From the stickied thread at the top of the forum:

Mr. Strange wrote:PLATFORM ISSUES: (Will it be available on consoles?)

* The game will be available on PC, probably via Steam. (Mac and Linux are likely, depending on how recently Pipeworks has updated their engine...) The game will be put out on consoles if enough money is raised to pay for the additional up-front costs demanded by console platform owners. Console releases are problematic, because the cannot have frequent content-updates and newly-themed releases. If we do not get the money for an initial console release, it is very possible that (after the game has become established) we may be approached by a publisher who will fund our transfer to the console realm.

^I knew that. Perhaps I should have been more clear. The statement I made could have been better construed.

I liked the charge up, that way you can interrupt them during the charge and cost them energy at the same time.

I say stay away from the console, everyone posting here has a computer, but we all don't have XBOX or Wii, whatever it may come out on. If it comes out on console, wait until the next gen consoles come out.

That sounds a bit too harsh of a punishment for just charging. That happened a lot in DAMM, didn't it? Annoying.

I wonder if I could make up a monster that would be appealing enough to any of those potential $500 donators. BD

Ok, dont mean to be mean, but here are 3 of my least favorite things about godzilla unleashed (in no order)

1. normal puches and kicks, I felt like they were useless! They took so little damage, others could interupt you, and it cant finish a health cell, I honestly liked StE's (and melee's) combos better.

2. Cheap moves, they had them in StE and Unleashed, StE's destroyah could blast out the stinkin oxygen balls for so little energy, and in unleashed, he could use the lazer sword with no cost in energy.

3. Controls, well, kinda, I cant really think of a much better way, I honestly think this game would have been much cooler with PS3 and XBOX 360 controls, which you pretty much did do it with PS3 controls, only using ps2, but lots of monsters were gone on the ps2 version, sorry im going off topic.

Please tell me if I have this right.

People will have less of the next gen consoles then the current gen I say update the game as much as possible on the PC and then if enough money is raised port the final version to consoles.

Yes, I believe you have your top three least favorite things about G:U exactly right.

I must be the only one in the world that likes Destoroyah's laser horn glitch. Then again, he's my favourite monster, so I must subconsciously gain satisfaction of seeing him take on Spacegodzilla, King Ghidorah, and Biollante and coming out on top.

The only problem with that is what we have with current Godzilla games, I can't play them online because they are for the old system. Also there are the "big 3" and that splits up the fan base. I remember setting up a tournament on XBOX live and some that had Playstation only were left out.

That isn't punishment, it is a way to control beam spammers. You have to find an opportunity to use a beam, unlike G:U you can go all willy nilly while running with beams (heard that was unsafe).

No, its just the people that lose to that kind of play that hate it. Then they in turn hate you, and avoid you at all costs because it is no fun to play against someone that does those kinds of things. If you do it to the computer, then do it all you can because I don't think they care. =D

G:STE already did that. It had online play for both the PS2 and XBOX, like you said. That's something you can't get away from. Games that are multiplatform and offer online play are always going to "split up the fan base". This isn't a new phenomenon.

That's fine with me, though if funding were to allow it, I definity wouldn't be opposed to a console release (frankly, thats what I would prefer anyway, but I understand why it may not be possible). More exposure for a Godzilla game is always a good thing.

Yes, I'm not against it if they can do it without any set-backs. Like if they can easily port it to the downloadable section to all systems for decent $$$. I would download it onto whatever system it would go to. I just feel if any console is included, they all should be and I'm not sure how much extra work that would put on the team.

PC games > Console in content/bug fix upgrades.

I don't think I need to explain how big of a fan I am of the big G, Strange... you may remember me being more than a little rabid back on GameFAQs during Unleashed's development. I promise not to get out of hand, six years is plenty of growing up time.

I wish that I had stumbled upon this sooner... I just dropped about two grand on new camera equipment, and I would gladly have waited on my purchase if it meant being able to give you guys a more substantial investment. As it stands, though, I can build up another $500 in free cash before the end of June and still have plenty left over for all of my necessities. I can probably round up a few more people to donate, too.

I'm very curious to see how this rolls out, and I promise you that you will have my fullest support. Just don't be in too much of a rush... time was your biggest enemy during Unleashed's development, IIRC.

Godspeed, good man. Godspeed.

Honestly, knowing what I now know about game development, I think it would be of tremendous benefit to have Pipeworks' involvement so long as you don't have to deal with a publisher.

Here's what it all boils down to, Strange. I'm sure you have plenty of faith in yourself as a designer. The real question seems to be "do you have faith in the team you will assemble?".

You working part-time on the game post-release might mean you would have to let go of the reins somewhat and trust the rest of the team to do their job correctly in their absence. It can be the hardest thing in the world to let your baby go and leave it in the hands of someone else, but if you put together the right team you should be able to trust them implicitly. If that's the case, it really isn't a horrible thing that you can't be right on top of the game at all times.

However, in the end it is still entirely up to you. I trust you will make the right decision either way.
