I agree with much of what you said.
However, I wasn't too fond of the manual energy charging system from Unleashed. In general, it was good to have energy, so you had to be charging constantly. It became a bit tedious to have to be holding down a button for much of the match. And visually distracting to have the monsters' backs glowing all the time.
I liked the idea of having a choice between health regeneration or energy regeneration. I just simply didn't like mechanically having to keep a button pressed so often.
Beam weapons:Speaking of pressing and holding a button down, doing that to charge up and release your beam in DAMM/StE was really satisfying. It made you feel really powerful to blast other players and knock them over with a fully charged beam.
That was completely absent from G:U's weapon system. The fact that the majority of the monsters couldn't even defeat someone with a beam attack was hugely unsatisfying and very unlike the source material.
The targeting system was also incredibly awkward and not intuitive in G:U. Not to mention Megalon and Space Godzilla couldn't even aim straight. Controlling the monsters' head with the right thumbstick was a really neat feature in DAMM/StE. It feels more natural since most games use the right thumbstick for aiming anyway.
Having to plant your feet and remain still to charge up and release your beam was also more accurate to the source material. Most monsters don't run around firing their beams in the films.
Disclaimer: I know this is a game and not a film.
