Favorite Theme in the Heisei Series

Postby GodzillaXGomoraFight » Sun May 06, 2012 6:48 pm

The question is pretty self-explanatory: what is your favorite theme from the Heisei Series and why. My favorite theme personally is MG2's theme from Godzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla 2. I love how Ifukube includes the brass into the piece and the strength of the strings. I can even play this theme on my french horn!

Gee, this is tough. For the time being, I'd have to go with the Godzilla 1989 theme from Biollante. Battra's theme is not too far behind and an honorable mention would be the Suspence theme from SpaceGodzilla.

Ditto. I think it's the real standout of the entire Heisei era (though Godzilla's dirge from Destroyah is quite memorable as well).

Godzilla Returns / Godzilla 1985 opening theme. Scared the hell outta me as a kid, something new and so dark. Even 'borrowed' that melody for a song of my own for a Heretic mod XD

It's a tie between Biollante's theme and the Super X3 theme music.

I dunno. Biollate's theme, Jr's theme, Destoroyah's theme, Burning Godzilla's theme, Mechagodzilla's theme, etc. I like most of them. But pick my favourite? Hmm... Requiem from GvD maybe? That or the Maser March.

The ending Mothra theme in BFE is one of my favorites, as is Godzilla's Hong Kong attack in Destoroyah.

I agree that Mechagodzilla's theme is a stand out, but so are pretty much ALL of the themes from BIOLLANTE.

This is tough. The movies got hit or miss near the end, but the music was always great. I'll have to go with the Super X-II theme for now.

My favorites always have been King Ghidorah's theme, MechaGodzilla's Sortie theme, and Godzilla's theme from Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (which is essentially a redone version of the original theme from the 1954 film).

The Return of Godzilla, Godzilla vs. Biollante and Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla are the only films to have themes exclusive to the Heisei era. Most everything else seems to be recycled from Showa films (and Daimajin).

So:
1) Godzilla's theme (The Return of Godzilla).
2) Godzilla's farewell (The Return of Godzilla).
3) Super-X Theme.
4) Countdown (Godzilla vs. Biollante).
5) Bio-Wars.
6) Battra's theme.
7) The Cave's theme (Godzilla vs. Mothra).
Every film should have at least one animal attack.

Recycled or not Mechagodzilla's theme in the '90s was one of the best things Ifukube ever composed. That's giant monster music right there.

Agreed. And on top of that, it's so vastly different from the piece it was adapted from (Mechani-Kong's theme) that it might as well be considered new anyway.

Ohhhhhhhhh boy. This is gonna be tough. While The Heisei films turned to crap at least quality wise a tad after vs King Ghidorah, the music was always good. My favorite Heisei themes:

Return of Godzilla's title theme
Godzilla's Farewell (Return of Godzilla)
Godzilla vs Biollante title theme
Super X theme
Super X2 theme
Bio Wars theme
Godzilla vs Spacegodzilla title theme
Godzilla vs Destroyoah title theme
Mechagodzilla (1990's) theme
Godzilla's Death Theme

Bio-Wars is the rocking theme with the guys stealing G-Cells and shooting JSDF members right? Cause I love that tune.

Kind of hard to be aware of something like that when the two themes sound nothing alike.

A asked my friend John DeSentis, a composer who knows Ifukube's works better than any other human being I know. This is what he had to say, "They share some musical DNA but no, it is not based on Mechanikong's theme. There is an unused track from '93 which layers the MG theme over top the chromatic figure that we hear during the Mechanikong theme so maybe that is where the confusion comes from. Either way I say no."
