Good god is there really a reason for fans to be flying off the handle like this?

Yes. Baby didn't get his cookie.

I like sugar cookies, dammit.

My sediments exactly, Capn'n. I sank around >$350 in all 3 runs of the past IDW Godzila series. I feel I got my money's worth. It's nice having a complete collection.

I just hope they take the covers down a notch in the future...

Here's what i dont get

If you dont like what they are doing then send an email or something suggesting what YOU think they should do instead of complaining on here and ripping fans who actually enjoy the series. Give them ideas.

If they dont change it the way you want then dont buy it. Simple as that. No need for anyone to flip out.

I'm excited for the new series and what stories they will tell. I will buy regardless because I am a huge fan period and love collecting this stuff.

We are here to discuss not have meltdowns and attack one another

Well, I can't help but also complain on the fact that KOM didn't have a story when Powell was on... It was just a huge event that occurred. Thankfully, we have whatever Ciarmella had to offer.

That's my point: You're going to give them more money for an inferior product. I feel like I was cheated, like I was manipulated into doing something against my will. Sure I bought them all, but...it was Godzilla, I couldn't just ignore it.

I understand that they want the prices high to make a living, but we're living in a depression. If they lowered their prices, maybe they would sell more comics and get more money. But what do I know?

And it was terrible. It was one of the worst comics I've ever read. The parts that weren't boring were ripped off from other comics. I'll admit it had its moments, like Battra hatching out instead of Mothra, but they were few and far between, and the whole Fraggin' series ended before it could be brought together. But still, I guess it was good that I read them. It was a learning experience, teaching what NOT to do when I write comics.
Before it can be filmed, drawn, acted or programed, it must be written.

Im sorry but that first logic doesnt make any sense. No one forced anyone to buy anything

You think Marvel hasnt put out a bad Spider-Man or X-men series? Sure they have it happens

Fans need to calm down and quit acting like its the end of the world and that they are being screwed over. Not everything Godzilla is going to be absolutely perfect or your perfect vision. Everyone has a different vision for stories. They wont always be perfect You want one done do it yourself. Its like movies.

What happens when the new LP movie comes out and its done how Godzilla should be but the story isnt perfect or what some fans envision but it brings in LOTS of new fans and makes money? Are they going to through a riot and boycott the movie?

What happens if a new toy line comes out and its not perfect either but brings in new fans? Are fans going to gripe then too because its not this or that?

Everyone chill out and just wait until the new series comes out.

I'm trying to be as delicate as possible when I say this, so nobody get all mad about it, but: That's the problem. You bought it. As Gator said, nobody made you buy it, you chose to not only pick up a few issues, you then continued buying them. Even after you had probably decided it wasn't good. There was no manipulation on anyone's part in this situation. In fact, the only way that you can truly express to a company that you aren't happy with their product is to hit them where, frankly, it hurts them the most; their revenue. If enough fans didn't like it and didn't buy it they'll surely try something different, which, apparently we are seeing. Fair enough. It works out for everybody in this scenario, right?

Right, that's pretty much the idea here. I'm sure they'll do something. And, again, if you don't like the ongoing, just go to the miniseries. Those have been pretty good so far. :)

I'm sorry guys, I'm just venting. I never got to do it properly, and it's all comming out now...

Anyway, it would be okay if the minis were weak and the ongoing was strong, but damn...I mean, it makes sense, I guess, but it still frustrates me.

Part of why I kept buying was because I hoped it was going to get better, and my hopes were dashed away each month.

No kidding! The recent films have been worse than these comics! I would compare the Millennium series to what happened when Joel Shumacher got ahold of Batman after Tim Burton's run. Just like Tim Burton's Batman, the Heisei films were imperfect, but they were solid fantasy films. The Millennium series (each and every film in it) dragged Godzilla through the mud, and the special effects stepped 30 years backward.
KOM was disappointing, but not nearly so disappointing as Godzilla 2000 was after what Toho had been up to in the early 90s.

I think that the two worst offenders are GMK and G 2000. Mothra and Baragon in GMK looked pretty good. Everything else was dreadful. Godzilla 2000 (apart from the two amazing ENORMOUS Godzilla backdrop scenes) looks pretty bad from start to finish.

CHILL OUT

Oh good lord, will you all just spare the conscending "don't like, don't read it and chill out" rhetoric already? It's just a cliche, tacky method to try to silence those who may not like aspects of these comics. Many of us have given sound, rational causes for concern about the directions/decision-making going on with these titles, and the only people who need to "chill out" are those flying off the deep end whenever anyone dares to criticize the direction of IDW's books. As Jomei said, let's drop the "nerdrage" already.

Anyways, moving on from bickering to some real news...

I wrote about some of my worries/concerns to Bobby Curnow over in the IDW forums as well as ideas/suggestions to improve these comics, and he gave a very nice and interesting reply, and I posted the most interesting and significant snip-its below:

Bobby Curnow wrote:
Regarding some of the things you'd like to see...

-Your 'real' KG. All I'll say is that I agree with your sentiments, I personally don't like GMK KG as much as previous incarnation. If things go how I hope, you won't be disappointed with his next appearance. We'll need a little time though, I don't want to rush him out, so be patient. I know that's probably a lot to ask after your dissatisfaction with KOM, but that's the best I can do right now.

-Gigan might possibly be my favorite kaiju. I was bummed we didn't do a Gigan Legends. We had a good proposal, but it had to do with his origin, which was hard to reconcile with Toho. That being said you will see Gigan in the future. I hope we do him justice.

-Re: MG... Yep, absolutely, we're aware of the other designs. But we can only use them in a way that honors their film roots. So Showa MG has to be an alien creation, which is why you've only seen him in Legends #3. Same type of thing for Kiryu, we have to work in why he's different from the other suits, which has been difficult to pull off for obvious reasons in our first year. That's why you've seen so much Heisei MG. He's the most flexible and fits the stories we've been telling.
But keep an eye out. We've got plans for both Showa MG and Kiryu that I'm very excited about.

Sounds intriguing indeed (would *LOVE* to hear what the Gigan proposal was :huge: But I doubt he's at liberty to discuss it). Despite some mis-givings I have about the direction of the up-coming Godzilla, I do appreciate that Mr. Curnow does seem to genuinely care about the opinions and feedback from fans. As despite what some might think here, I am going to give Godzilla a try and if it proves me wrong, then no one will be happier than me...

What if we give sound, rational reasons for why we are able to enjoy it? I mean, I don't know about anyone else, but calling something a "shit-stain" is just a little condescending IMO. Nobody is mad about you not liking the comic, we get frustrated with the way you express it and then you get upset if someone expresses their reasons for liking the comic in the same "rational" manner you adopt.

And the messages from Mr. Curnow confirm what we already knew; No Showa KG because of Toho. No Gigan Legends becaue of Toho. No Showa MG because of Toho.

Capn'n, bro, I love ya. Brotherly Kaiju love up in here. Lemme explain something to you...

Sense. It doesn't exist.

"The company doesn't listen to the fans."

"Then why are you so vocal about this?"

"Because I'm a fan and it needs to change."

Do you see this pattern? Its a dog chasing its tail. No matter what, it will still end up at the same point.... That's a stupid dog.

I really wish this would've been out this past Wednesday... Free Comic Book Day tomorrow, and I wanna go, but... :( Low on gas, and my comic shop is ~20 minutes away. I wanna enjoy FCBD, but I just wanna get the rest out of what little I can drive, ya know?

In the meantime, gonna bust out all of my cover A copies of KoM in preparation of the new series.

Back on topic does anyone know how the whole comic series has been selling? Especially compared to IDWs other lines?
Frankly I'd like it to become as big as their Transformers series

Ehh... I don't feel like grabbing it, but the main site has the numbers for all of the issues for KoM, G&G, and Legends.
