I LOVE this movie. It was one of the first Godzilla movies I had ever seen, has aswesome designs, good monster fights (which is A LOT better then the beam spammings that took place just before), and is just pure nastolgia to me. I can watch it a hundred times and would still find it interesting.
It may not be a masterpiece, but it sure 'aint very bad and is very interesting (atleast for me...).

I've been reading the arguments in this damn thread so long, I had to go back and watch the movie again.

You know what? I think it holds up pretty damn well. It's definitely not one of the best, but it is miles above GINO, FW and Megaguirus, and does a damn good job of evoking the early-Showa anti-hero Godzilla (IMHO).

Still a solid "B" grade from me.

I forgot to mention this before; just a bit of trivia.

I watched Patton(1970) a while back, and during his speech at the beginning, I was surprised to hear him use that infamous phrase "like crap through a goose!".

...And here I thought the G2K dub invented that line.

God I love Patton. The man and the film.

You should look up the actual transcript of his speech to the Third Army sometime, I found it fascinating.

G2K used to be horribly underrated, but these days it's anything but. In fact I'd say it's the single most mixed of opinion film in the entire series. There's no 'general consensus' like you can draw with the other films. Older fans hate it, new fans love it.

Every time I see see GODZILLA 2000, I can't help but be impressed. It holds up extremely well, the effects for the most part are great. The camera angles make G look even more imposing than ever, plus the suit is my personal favorite. The climax I thought was executed perfectly, there's a certain danger that you feel during the whole battle. The soundtrack I thought was also pretty strong. All in all, I just can't find any reason to dislike this film.

I love the film, so please don't try to argue with me directly, but I'm told the reasoning is due to slow pacing and mediocre effects.

It's been too long since I've seen G2K to accurately judge.

Well if it has mixed a reception then it's still wide open for being "under-rated" in the eyes of those who think it was a solid movie (or better).

The effects are pretty inconsistent and flat out bad in numerous areas, especially if CGI was involved. The scene with Godzilla walking ashore before the UFO attacked him also stands out as bad execution. The Orga suit didn't have have hands/fingers that could move. Godzilla's foot stamping the city street lined with cars also didn't look so great. That's the tip of the iceberg. Yet other parts were great. Godzilla's suit was great, much of the miniature work was excellent, etc. You wanna talk great effects, look at G98, which is about the only real praise I can heap on that movie.

The CGI was pretty bad at times, but I did find the scene where he swims under water to be good. I don't think something like that had ever been captured before in the previous entries.

The swimming Godzilla's got better in the films after this. This one looks pretty bad nowadays, while the one from GMK, still holds up well.

The one in Megaguirus looked the worst.

I honestly can't remember. I haven't seen the film that many times. I seriously doubt it looked "worse" though. Maybe not much better.

Whatever the case, the CG Godzilla's got a lot better with GMK, onwards.

Hey guys remember me? GodzillaDude? I probably have far less posts than some of my old friends on here but that is not the point! I am back to have fun!

Anyways G2k is possibly my favorite Godzilla film for multiple reasons, so I think it is very underrated (so is Godzilla vs. Megaguirus) Here are reasons why I love G2k
- My favorite Godzilla suit (used again in Godzilla vs. Megaguirus but with some modifications)
- A very cool story about the characters exploring Regenerator G1
- Interesting characters that I actually like even in the English dubbed version
- Takehiro Murata
- Orga was/is interesting
- The score is incredible (English version)
- The final battle is great

Yes. Especially at 1:19 is when it gets really good and it's really nice when it plays at the end during the credits when you see Godzilla through the flames-

LOL.

That theme is by Akira Ifukube, who was not the composer of this film. It wasn't composed specifically for GODZILLA 2000. It was an older theme which was used because it was so good. It's Godzilla's theme, and is heard in countless other films.

The original music from the film is bland, and forgettable.

What about the final battle made it "great"? As far as the score being incredible I too dissagree whole heartedly.

The Japanese score wasn't one of my favourites, that's for sure, but I do like the modified Peter Robinson score used in the American version. Although there are still one or two tracks from the Japanese score that I like.

Anyone know where I can find the "Anti-Godzilla" theme? The one that plays right after Orga's hand falls down in the for-ground.
