I found part of this review from Collider.com to be interesting: "Nothing like The Avengers has ever been attempted in Hollywood history. No major motion picture has ever been the culmination of four different blockbuster franchises, each with its own protagonist, and crossing them over into one gigantic film. "

Destroy All Monsters did that 44 years earlier didn't it?

but none of the movies before DAM had specific ties to DAM if I recall.
Apparently SWTOR said that I can invite 25 people for a 7 day trial of the game. PM me if interested.

Or how about Universal's House of Frankenstein (1944) although technically it was only 3 franchises, you get the gist of it.
There has never been a "Scientifically Accurate" Dinosaur portrayed on any Television Show, Movie, or Documentary. Only what the human imagination can conceive, and I'm ok with that.

Marvel needs to leave the IG alone in till they bring the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man and X-men into the marvel movie universe first. And maybe Galactus.

DAM was not part of Hollywood, nor was DAM and the included monsters' associated films all part of one over-reaching universe. I know they throw "no major motion picture" in there, but it really implies Hollywood productions, at least that's how I took it.

Didn't the all the monsters cross over into the Godzilla Universe, I'd say DAM just missed the Hollywood part.

Well I mean we can all discuss the variables, but if it misses the Hollywood aspect then it's disqualified from the writer's criteria in the same way that the character count does. Of course, in my world movies like The Avengers, Destroy All Monsters, Godzilla: Final Wars, and other such films are all in the same category in the whole throw-errthang-but-the-kitchen-sink-at-this-movie sort of way, but they each have different characteristics. DAM was a major Japanese production with tons of monsters, The Avengers is a major American (Hollywood) production with four superheros. They're different.

Hopefully my thoughts are clearer here.

Im not going near this movie this weekend. Thinking 5/11 or 5/12 I'll go. ...maybe. I must say the longer trailer (being shown at the local Walmart) looked damn good. But I think Cap is getting boned.

Same here. My wife and I made plans like a month ago with another couple to see it on 5/12. Yes I know its sad, but when you have kids you have to so far in advance for a date night without kids ;) .

Could they do a IG movie without the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, and X-men? Well just wait till a sequel to find out. As for Galactus, no.

IG needs to be a franchise wide event. The Avengers themselves are HUGE. Throwing them up against the IG in their second film is insane. It's bad enough almost everything revolves around Thor and the Norse Gods.

IG needs to come in after a FF reboot, tying FF into The Avengers and perhaps something more cosmic. Id actually REALLY dig a long gritty LOTR style Annihilation Wave movie.

If you actually read the cosmic Marvel stuff, you get a better scheme of how small Earth actually is out there. The only reason Earth got involved with the IG was the previous cosmic characters interacting with established Earth characters.

Adam Warlock and the Silver Surfer with the FF are big ones.
