This.

A light hearted film can have serious moments (Spider-Man 1 & 2 were far from dark, having a lot of corny or funny moments but the deaths of people were still treated seriously showing that a fun world is not prefect and still has issues). Like wise dark films can still have light hearted moments or funny moments to give people a breather from the situation and show that even in such a messed up world it's not all bad (a few horror films like Scream do this).

If they can find a balance between the two where people can take the film serious enough to not just roll their eyes at it and call it stupid but still acknowledge how unreal it is and still have fun despite the death count...

Several things can ruin the LP Godzilla reboot:

1: It becomes way too dark & cebreal with no humor (think Christopher Nolan's Batman films)
2. Godzilla doesn't get much screentime & is shows up near the final act of the film
3. Characters getting much more focus than the title character himself
4. It gets way too preachy about atomic weapons

What an open ended question

1. Godzilla is brought to life by Zebra Nazi's from Space, using non biodegradable products buried in Earths landfills
2. Godzilla has the power to shoot Giant Bananas out of his nose
3. Before he goes into the ocean Godzilla always puts on a swim suit
4. Godzilla speaks english with a voice sounding like he has always sucked too much helium

I'd say more than that, the human imagination is limitless. But all fun aside, I think as much as many fans (including myself) dislike Sony's GODZILLA, I honestly dont feel the film makers set out with malicious intent to ruin the character, they honestly tried to make a good film. It has been 14 years since that films release, and possibly 16-18 if/before we see the LP one. I have no doubt it will be better than 1998 GODZILLA. Even if the improvement is only slight (Like Comparing Incredible Hulk 2008 to HULK 2003) I would still see it as an admirable improvement, and not something I was embarrased to say I liked. I have no doubt the look and feel of the character will stay true to the Godzilla we know, as for the execution of the film itself, that remains to be seen.
There has never been a "Scientifically Accurate" Dinosaur portrayed on any Television Show, Movie, or Documentary. Only what the human imagination can conceive, and I'm ok with that.

Is this topic supposed to be the successor of ''Biggest Worries''?

THAT was a horrible film, it made Power Ranged look like Lord of the Rings.

Back on topic, here are my biggest fears:

1. In the style of DBE, a film that is constantly getting thrown back in development hell before turning into a low budget, badly written flop

2. A Final Wars/Revenge of the Fallen style film (or anything like the Bayformers franchise)

3. A gothic uber dark film that would make Tim Burton blush

4. A sappy "family" film. I don't want a rated R film either, maybe something with a "hard" PG 13 rating, especially in terms of violence

5. Another GINO, stripping Godzilla of all his classic traits to make a "realistic" monster. Now I'm definitely for a slimmer, more life like Godzilla, but I DON'T want an anorexic velociraptor with maple leaf spines. Godzilla should be slimmer, maybe have some more dinosaurian features here and there, but should definitely stand in a humanoid posture.

6. On the opposite end of another GINO, a purist film. What I mean is a film that is a carbon copy of the TOHO films. While I don't want to see another Zilla, I don't want to see a Heisei or GMK style Godzilla. I'm sick of people arguing that lard equals power and that rubber suits are the only way to keep the character of Godzilla intact. I know a lot of people hate the Final Wars design, but I'm definitely hoping we get something along those lines. In terms of effects, I want to see Godzilla portrayed through motion capture ala Peter Jackson's Kong.

Final Wars actually went the right route with making slimmer suits the problem was they just wasted it on second long fights.

Kind of. I just wanted to know after the movie comes out what we're all going to bitch about, but so far most of what I'm getting is "Don't make it like the 1998 movie and it'll be fine."

I don't think that's the only thing but Godzilla 1998 pretty much nailed everything every G-fan feared would happen in an American version of Godzilla.

- Lack of Godzilla
- Godzilla is not portrayed correctly in design or spirit
- Bad acting
- Bad Dialog
- Cheesy 1 liners
- boring sequences
- Godzilla baby's
- Ripping off Jurassic park
- No monster for Godzilla to battle

So Emmerich an Devlin pretty much set the bar very low for an American Godzilla film, An Toho has left the bar pretty low after most fan's being majorly disappointed with ''Godzilla: Final Wars''.

So to me Legendary would really have to want this property to fail in order to do something worse then Sony's misfire.

True.

Hopefully this film can have some great action while still having a serious and intelligent story.

While I want Godzilla to be slim, I would actually like to see a bulky enemy kaiju, especially if it's something like Ghidorah or Destoroyah.

The suits were also made out of a new lighter material so actors had more freedom to run and not have so much strain on them.

But again GFW wasted what could have potentially been great tooth and claw action we haven't seen since the 60's films. As for the enemy, I don't mind them being slim as long as they tower over Godzilla, especially if it's King Ghidorah. The one thing that makes him stand out besides being gold and three headed is that he makes one of the largest creatures on Earth look small standing next to him.

GINO was supposed to be a remake of Gojira.

I'd also like to see some contrast in personality between Godzilla and his enemy. Godzilla, to me, has always been the ultimate anti hero bad ass. He can be both frightening and heroic, but over all is more chaotic neutral. For an enemy like King Ghidorah, I want to see something evil and foul. While Godzilla had this sense of nobility to him, KG had a more arrogant and mocking personality, as well as a lot of sadistic glee. Another good example is Destoroyah. When Godzilla is fighting, you can tell he is VERY pissed off, while Destoroyah on the other hand is in murderous ecstasy and is having the time of his life.

Back on topic, another thing I'm worried about is seeing something like Kingdom of Monsters (hamfisted humor, evil Godzilla, overtly political tones)

Not enough sex scenes.

Sorry, too much Game of Thrones.
