I havent seen these yet, except for bits and pieces on You-Tube and reading it on Monster Archives and Toho Kindom' main page, but I reeeeallly want to see them.

All three movies are on Crackle; just type "mothra" in the search box. Dubbed versions only, though, and like others have posted... yeah.

I actually like all three movies. The whole trilogy itself. The first one was a good entry and start up for the series. And it was kinda interesting to see how Mothra actually gives birth. Dessy was a great way of turning from the normal Ghidorah gravity style. It looked demonic and awesome, and the kaiju itself was unique.

ROM II: I have to say...This is my favorite entry. Dagarah was badass especially his ace in the hole attack, that massive barrem toxic whirlpool attack he did on Leo was impressive and very impressive. His design looked very aquatic and interesting, and knowing that he could fly he seemed like a match against Leo. Actually more than a match. And when Aqua Mothra came on the screen, I was like...Mmm...Okayish. But when he/she went inside of Dagarah and split up into million micro versions of him and heavily wounded him from the inside out was epic. That's right, I said it lol. The main cast kills the film with ease, but the fights seem to recover some of the damage. Not all but a acceptable amount to pass the film.

ROM III: Great, and...Well better than all the rest action-wise. No questions asked. Ghidorah was updated and looked better than every. It introduced the most OP Mothra ever created in the whole Toho Kaiju Franchise, Armored Mothra. It was still childish but not more than ROM II and ROM.

I watched ROM3 for the first time in probably 10 years last night and it's probably just as bad or even worse than ROM2. The first is the only one I could call decent.

I did notice though that the mom was played by the spooky dead wife from Audition.

I enjoy the films a lot, however flawed they are. I'm able to be attracted by shiny and colorful things, and needless to say, Mothra provided that. I saw the second movie first, followed by the first. I like spinoffs of characters, and Death Ghidorah fell under that category. I bought the third film raw, and remember the Rush Hour trailer, Doraemon, and that horror film that was third in a series that involved children and a creepy hand pulling a door open.

I vaguely remember catching wind that the third entry would air on Sci-Fi and recorded it. I love hearing the Hong Kong team, and being able to understand everything and hear their voices again was very fun.

I hope elements from this trilogy make it into future kaiju installments, including Belvera. I always revision her in my mind as a defender of the planet who REALLY enjoys hurting bad guys (Whether they're actually evil, or otherwise) and is the fairy for Battra.

I picture Dagahra pwning the navy with upgraded acidic barem.

I'd like Death Ghidorah and Monster X to be reintroduced as the "Deciples of Ghidorah!" *scary finger waving* I'm fuzzy on their relation to the King of Terror, but maybe creatures to resume his destructive legacy if he ever passed?

The first Mothra film was amazing. When Desghidorah had Mothra Leo's larva form in its jaws, I just lost it there. I literally thought they were going to die XD

And it had great acting. The plot was not bad. I thought the end battle was a rush, but I had to remember it was a kid's film, so it needed a quick turn around for the good guys.

Second, as far as I remember, was not... bad. There was a bit of aerial combat between Mothra Leo and Dagara that I enjoyed. That was all though. I can't completely remember the plot for this.

The Third, I thought the plot was pretty good. Although the main actor was horrible, and I could not understand how Ghidorah went from destroying cities and people to kidnapping children and trapping them in a large bubble for energy. I kept wondering why he didn't just eat them.

But Mothra Leo' time travel to battle Cretaceous Ghidorah was enjoyable, and leading up to Armor Mothra.

Death Ghidorah is a good candidate for that. Destroying civilizations is one thing, but killing an entire planet is another.

I re-watched my bootleg VHS of Rebirth of Mothra 2 today.

That was a BAD movie.

Watching this film, I get the feeling that the producers took their target audience (young children) as an excuse not to put any real effort into the story writing. The movie is just full of moments that made me think, "What??", and face-palm at their stupidity.
I'm not fond of Dagahra either. He's just a big, awkward sea dragon with "wings"; not very creative. The only thing I like about him is his theme music, which is pretty catchy.

Overall -- this film is terrible. I cannot recommend it, even for youngsters. There are better kaiju movies for the kids to watch.

^ I agree. I love Mothra, but RoM2 does nothing but embarrass the entire concept. Most of the effects are shoddy as well, especially Gorgo, who appears to possess no form of locomotion aside from being chucked into the shot like a soccer ball. And how long does Mothra lay on the temple and take Dagahra's pot shots? About three freakin' days? Or does it just seem that long?

Damn!! And people think I'm exaggerating when I say ROM 2 is Toho's worst SPX film of all time.

Well, I can't say how good or bad the special effects themselves were, since the video quality of the VHS was very lackluster.
...Not that good effects could save that film anyway.

@Cimmerian Dragon: according to my VHS's subtitles, it's spelled "Go-Go". ROFL.


...Oh! That reminds me! One thing that COULD have made this film more tolerable is if, instead of introducing the new kaiju Dagahra, they had brought back Hedorah. Seriously, Dagahra is explained as being a kaiju designed to eradicate pollution, only for him to backfire and create his own, aka the Barems. This is an origin story that would have fit Hedorah perfectly, and would have made a far more interesting villain monster.

Quick question...I am so so on Mothra as a character in the Godzilla films so do you guys think if I watch this series I will be more into the character? Should I give this trilogy a chance?

The first one is decent; not great, but not particularly bad either. It's worth a look.

My last couple posts should tell you what I think of the second. Go ahead and watch it if you're interested, but you were warned.

I haven't seen the third one in a while, so I can't comment. However, I plan to watch it again soon, so I'll post my opinion of it then.

The first ROM is a mediocre movie that had a lot of potential IMO. The sequel is an bad movie. The characters are annoying (as is the dub), the pacing is ridiculously bad, the effects are often lazy, and the only positive was the basic plot, which matters not when the movie is this bad. The third one brings it back up to mediocre daikaiju standards, so okay movie, but you have to be into this sort of thing or a younger person.

I think RoM III is a darn good family-friendly fantasy/monster/action film. Not a masterpiece by any means, but I definitely enjoy it.

...So, I watched Rebirth of Mothra 3 today. Some television station was running it, so my dad recorded it.

It was okay. The story was decent, but there were several plot points that ended up having no effect whatsoever on the story.
I can't really gauge the acting quality, because I had to watch the movie dubbed - and, of course, the dub was lousy.
The special effects were average. Grand King Ghidorah looked excellent, though.

Overall, this is an average/mediocre film. It's not as good as the first, but it's certainly better than the second. I recommend it for the younger audiences.

I enjoy RoMIII's usage of time travel more then in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah. Grand King Ghidorah really is a joy to behold. Not to mention it's the last legitimate Ghidorah we've had.

Yeah, not quite as solid as RoMI, leaps and bounds and back flips better then RoMII.
