Supposedly, theres a manga for Godzilla vs Gigan and it states that Gigan's species is mantis-like before they're made into cyborgs.

A mantis? I dont know apart from the obvious claws I dont think he is very mantis like. I think he is definatly a bird thing. I would like to see what happens when cyborg Gigan met a non cyborg member of his species.

In a fan fiction I am working on, Gigan is a failed clone of King Ghidorah made from some of his DNA (which explains the Ghidorah-like scales on his torso). The other two necks/heads didn't form properly, just grew as useless stumps, so the hook claws were attached. Gigan was born blind, so the infra-red visor was added so he could see, and the metal beak was grafted onto his misshapen mouth. The wings split into the fins on his back. Lacking Ghidorah's gravity bolts, the buzzsaw was implemented to focus on melee combat. A laser emitter was installed in his forehead, but was broken by Godzilla during their fight before it could be put to use.

I like this idea a lot. Ghidorah's like a parent to this thing

^ like I said before it's an interesting idea, but Gigan is probably one of the most strangest kaiju in the franchise, I wouldn't be suprised if his origins were even weirder like he really was a giant lemur before he became what we see today

I love Gigan so much...I always thought he kinda looked like that figure before transformation (without having seen it, or at least remembering it) Though I gotta say, the Ghidorah clone theory sounds too horrofic. Plus, I don't want an official explanation, I like him being a mystery, an anomaly against monsters.
