Which figure should I buy: Xplus, Marmit, or Bandai?

Postby ebirahsmeg1 » Fri Apr 20, 2012 6:13 am

Ok guys,

I have come across several interesting figures...some of them are newer figures, while others are quite old, but ones I've pondered picking up for a long time or have been looking.

Anyways, I'm rather torn, so I figured I'd ask fellow veteran collectors on here for their opinion....which one of these should I buy this weekend? :?:

- X-plus Mosu-Goji (25 inch scale...it looks good, but comes with a rather pointless brown "stand" for it to be placed on...if I get this, the "stand" is getting tossed. Otherwise, it looks like a decent figure, although the position of the feet gives me some concern...can it actually stand on its own without the lame brown stand?). - 9500 yen

- Marmit MH GFW Angilas - 8800 yen
Image

- Marmit MH Gira-Goji (the recent metallic variant) - 9800 yen
Image

- Bandai Mothra 1998 (Leo and Armor) - 4000 yen

Which one should I get? :?: :!: :xilien:

The GFW Anguirus MH is beautiful and rare. Since it's on my top 5 (existing) figure want I'd go with that one.

I'm personally a Marmit kinda man myself, but all of those are cool. The Gira-Goji is fairly similar to the MireGoji Marmit makes, and I love that figure, so I lean toward the Godzilla. It also sports a unique pose.

Consider, though, that I don't collect X-Plus at all.

I'd go with the X-Plus Mosu-Goji personally, I'm biased though as I much prefer more movie accurate figures.

Hey guys, thank you so far for all the feedback.

I will most likely be going tomorrow (Sunday) or Monday (evening) to pick one of these babies up...so if there's anything folks like or hate about any one of these figures and would like to give some more details and reviews of each figure, I'd love to hear it before making my choice.

Also, don't forget to vote! For example, I've heard several people here say they like the Marmit Gira-Goji...yet it only has 1 vote. Please vote!

Yeah, I've too been considering on getting myself an X-Plus Mosu-Goji for a while.
However, everywhere I've seen it, it's sold out, and people on Ebay are charging well over $200.00 for it.

I usually do not buy X-Plus figures due to them being way out of my price range, but Mosu-Goji and Showa Gigan being $114.00 have caught my interest lately.

Out of those? I say the MH Angy. I figure, in the long run, he's going to be the harder one to find for a decent price later on, but I don't think you'll go wrong with any of them. Congrats, good swag!

I've notice that the Xplus Mosu-Goji is leading by quite a lot...yet no one is saying why I should buy it over the other figures :?: Would love to hear from folks who voted for it, or those who own the Mosu-Goji 25 inch figure and can give some more details/feedback on it....

I think the Mosu-Goji is a beautiful piece however the collector in me says to go with the MH Angy. It's just one of those items I never see offered up. Theoretically, the Mosu-Goji will be available if you want it. It's not exactly a figure I never see...

EDIT: Frankly, love them or hate them, the FW Monster Heaven figures seem to be few and far between. I rarely see these for sale outside of YJ...

Own the 99 Mothra and the 64 Godzilla. I'd take the X-Plus of the two but I'm a bit of a fanatic. However, it will require the base, and I think the 30cm Xplus is superior. But this one will make a killer set with the upcoming Mothra.

So I would probably go for the Marmit Anguirus too. Never liked the sculpt of the G '00, preferred the G '99 closed mouth one instead.

Wow, so it actually does require the base in order to stand...how lame! X-plus really infuriates me with their inconsistencies. I'll have to keep that in mind when making my decision...thanks for the insight....

Id go with the Xplus. I have the 99 ROM3 Armor Mothra. It's IMHO a horrible figure from Bandai. They were just pumping out this ROM to get SOME money back from the crap franchise.

The MH stuff IMHO will get more expensive over time faster. But Id go for the XPlus.

Don't really see the big deal about the X-Plus. You have the Gigabrain '64 right? I'd say that's good enough. Go for the Angilas, even though I hate FW. It's still a cool figure.

My guess is the X-Plus is simply getting votes because people are automatically voting for what looks realistic.

Nope, I voted for it because it's by far my favorite suit design, and I think X-plus did a decent job on the sculpt. The pose is nice, and the exceptionally serpentine tail comes off very well. Much as I love stylized figures, I'm usually not satisfied with the length and fluidity of the tails.

That said, the Marmit Godzy isn't a bad choice either. The Anguirus is a wonderful sculpt too...but I just hate the design. He looks like an inflated pit-bull with a carapace.

Now I know you are not a fan of the X-Plus base, but the pose it allows is pretty awesome. Like it was mentioned the tail and the stride forward are really captured well. The face is a little thin, while I preferred the chunkier look of the 30cm, we all know that the Mosugoji suit had some adventures in the filming and featured both looks. I have it displayed where I can only see the right side and it looks dynamite, Godzilla powerfully and confidently advancing toward his unseen target.

Quick update: I'm very busy today, so I may not make it to Akihabara today to pick one of these up :( Instead, I will most likely head out to Akiba on Wens. evening after work. Hopefully these figures are not gone by then (and that has happened to many *MANY TIMES*, let me tell you  ) Thanks for all the comments and advice so far, and until then, please keep the votes and advice coming!

I really regret that I wasn't collecting when I was in Japan last time. I was diddling around in DenDen town, probably overlooking all kinds of things I'd love the chance to buy now. Next time I'm over I'm going to need an extra suitcase for loot. LOL

Ok, sorry for following up late on this, as I wasn't able to make any purchases due to work (it's busy season right now).

Anyways, the figure that I ended up purchasing was....

:huge: Thanks everyone for your feedback and participation. This will make a fine addition to the family. Basically, my choice came down to several factors. First of all, I am different from most collectors on here in that I don't collect a particular line; instead, I'm solely concerned with getting whatever I feel is the best *figure* of each particular Godzilla-related kaiju, regardless of toy company or style. That's why I lovingly refer to figures as my "rag tag collection", as I have a mixture of both stylized and realistic figures standing hand in hand with each other.

In this case, I feel that the Marmit MH is the best representation of FW Angilas in 8 inch scale. Bandai's FW Angilas is a fine figure and certainly more "realistic", but for whatever reason, Bandai has *always* made their Angilas figures a tad bit on the small side. When I first got the 8 inch FW Angy figure, I honestly wasn't sure if it was suppose to be 6 inch or 8 inch scale, and it looked tiny next to the GFW-Goji figure. Likewise, their classic 8-inch Showa Angilas figure remains one of my favorites, but it's also rather small compared to Bandai's other 8 inch figures and doesn't scale all that well with others in the 8 inch line. Finally, I just don't see this particular Marmit figure that often (I've only seen it once before, and that was 3 years ago in a rather ugly yellow-ish variant).

The Mothra Figure is a Bandai figure that's not that difficult to find in Japan (once I actually started looking out for it, I easily found it several places). The MH Gira-Godzilla figure is nice and I might buy it later on if it's still available, but I already have the excellent MH G2k figure and don't feel an urgent need for yet another figure of a suit that's not really one of my favorite suits to begin with. Finally, the "stand" thingy completely turned me off from buying the otherwise excellent Xplus figure. I really don't understand why Xplus does stupid sh*t like this...there is so much damn potential in this line. I really want to love and fully embrace this line, I really do...but they're too inconsistent with silly nonsense like this. Besides, as Legion pointed out, I already have the outstanding Gigabrain Mosu-Goji figure, and that more than suits me just fine.

Once again, thanks everyone for your comments and advice. I might do this again in the future as it was quite fun :godzilla: :g2k:
