I second this notion.

It comes damn close IMO, and the face is better in that angle (though the frontal angle is even worse than Mire-Goji's frontal). Mire-Goji seems a bit more lively to me, and I think the more extreme colors match the extreme design better than traditional colors. Also, I like Mire-Goji's larger head, whereas Kiryu-Goji has a bit of a pinhead.

[lol]
Heh-heh, 'pinhead.'

While the KiryuGoji did have a nice appearance (definitely better than the SokogekiGoji in my eyes), a lot of the features seemed too minimized versus the MireGoji. SokogekiGoji was a close attempt at going back to the Heisei, but that pot-belly seriously killed it in my eyes. At least in the Heisei, the shoulders had a little more mass. The SokogekiGoji at the shoulders was a little too narrow in my opinion. Okay, this is exactly what was going on in my brain the first time I saw the SokogekiGoji:

[sees the front view of the head] Okay, this one seems imposing. I like the whited-out eyes; gives him this unnatural-demonic feel to it.
[sees the neck] Good, good; I like where this is going.
[sees the shoulders] Um...something's not quite right here.
[finally pans out to see the entire suit in one frame] Okay, those shoulders are definitely too narrow.
[sees the side view of the suit] That pot-belly needs to go!

[Disclaimer]Okay, once again, please take into account that these are personal opinions, mind you. I do not speak for everyone here, so please take it with a grain of salt. Remember, everyone here is entitled to an opinion, and as opinions go, you're never be able to please everyone.[/disclaimer]

The first time I saw GMK, I thought it looked a lot like Heisei Godzilla too. As time has progressed, however, and I paid closer attention, I've found it bears a much greater resemblance to Shodai-Goji and the early 60's suits.

The head does have the imposing quality to it; I won't argue with that one. The fangs at the front of its snout definitely calls out loud "ShodaiGoji."

I agree that the GMK suit's body is badly proportioned. The head looks pretty good, with the fangs and dead, white eyes, but everything else is just odd-looking.

I'm convinced that if people didn't know about the history of GMK Godzilla (being supposed to stand like a dinosaur, not fitting the suit actor, etc) they wouldn't bring such criticisms on the design/execution. This not unlike people saying the 1984 suit barely moved, when they learned about Kenpachiro Satsuma having much trouble with the size of the suit. It's practically a psychological thing.

Well he never said anything about that. He just thought it was oddly proportioned.

^ That I did. And having re-watched the movie the other day, I stand by that opinion. Again, the head looked great. I also liked the large, bone-white claws. The body itself, though, needed work. The pot-belly should've been slimmer, the shoulders needed more bulk, the over-sized spines gave him a weird 'hunchback' sort of look from the side, and the neck was slightly too long and thin.

It wasn't terrible, though. There are certainly a few worse suits out there.

What exactly is "thin" about the neck? That particular complaint doesn't make any sense to me.

Well, to me, the neck isn't at all bad. What does look disproportionate is the pot-belly and the shoulders. Everything else can stay on the SokogekiGoji, they just needed to lessen the belly and add more bulk to the shoulders; that's all.

I don't think the kid was ready for it. I think it's a case of sensory overload. To him, the suit looked frightening; to be that close to such a frightening thing, one can already imagine what happens to a child should the panic button be pressed...

Okay, the neck looks fine from most angles. There were a few shots from the side where it looked weird, though. Really, the whole suit is like that. Looks okay from every angle but the side.

Sokogecki-Goji's neck slants forward awkwardly, and it's made even more noticeable by the broomstick-straightness of the back. This, along with the over-sized lower body, are the only real issues with the suit in my opinion.

^That picture reminds me how BIG that suit was. :g2k:
