These humans could develop weapons that can harm kaiju. It's not that hard to grasp.

Hell, the mutants in Final Wars took Ebirah out with some laser guns!

Shall I also point out The Yuki Special?

^ It was the handgun filled with blood coagulant that Yuki from Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla was running around with. One of the most devestating Anti-Godzilla weapons we've seen yet.

That is also the scene in the film where it becomes irrecoverably broken and your brain cells start committing mass suicide. Even if you like the movie, I cannot see how anyone would not consider that scene completely skreeonk retarded.

Well, the Oxygen Destroyer successfully killed Godzilla. The fact that there were more than one Godzilla's, and that prehistoric microscopic lifeforms would be mutated into a new monster, were unaccountable variables.

Yuki's bullet was intended to kill Godzilla; however, it had NO visible effect on him (probably because it couldn't get through his skin). It failed at its purpose.

Yes, the blood coagulant comment t'was indeed sarcastic.

I actually liked the concept behind the Mutants vs. Ebirah scene. A squad of supersoldiers fighting an enormous lobster had potential for all kinds of zany awesomeness. The actual execution was just...silly looking.

I admit, I enjoy the mutants vs. Ebirah scene; however it's rather out of place for a Godzilla movie. It's a concept more similar to what you'd see in an Ultra show.

Agreed.

Poe Ghostal wrote:I understand why the comic producers got the idea of nuking a monster out of the way in Godzilla KOM #1, but I can't help but think humanity would try that at least one more time on one of the other monsters.

Nuking Godzilla made him bigger and gave him atomic breath. I don't think they want to do that again even on another monster.

When you think about it, I'm sure humanity would find a way to find cost-effective methods of using weapons that can kill kaiju without using Mechagodzillas or any of that. As insane as this concept is, I think all can work out with the writer. And let's not forget the traditional "Deadly weapon in the mouth" method used in a bit of other monster films (then again, G'84 and Biollante used that too...).

Don't forget Varan!

And don't forget Titano in Terror of MechaGodzilla (It pretty much harmed decently well), and of course there's the War of the Gargantuans (The military was actually showing promising results of finally taking down a kaiju on their own...Until Sanda came to the rescue.)

^ And Space Amoeba, along with quite a number of other things I can't think of at the moment... I think.

And seriously, if Mechagodzilla and Moguera are the only good weapons on Godzilla, why in the world don't they use THAT technology on something smaller and cheaper?

It depends on which chronology we're talking about. In the Heisei chronology (as well as in GMK) I think that we're supposed to believe that Godzilla either re-materialized or regenerated himself from cells which survived. It took 30 years for him to return, but I think that the implication is that the same monster is back. In the Kiryu films, of course, it's made clear that this isn't the case. In the Showa films, it's supposed to be a new Godzilla, presumably, that fights Anguirus and goes on to star for the next 20 years.

6 page sneak preview (kind of...some of it is difficult to decipher):

http://www.godzillanews.com/2012/04/exc ... zilla.html

Today we continue our tour of IDW Publishing, now focusing on the first issue of the new Godzilla comic series that is set to be released in May.
Bobby Curnow, editor of the new Godzilla series, leads us to a conference room and spreads out the printer proofs of the first issue. Behind us is the “wall of fame,” featuring mounted posters of select IDW comic covers, including the inaugural cover of last year’s Godzilla: Kindom of Monsters series.

The cover by Art Adams is positively epic, with Godzilla rampaging through a cityscape amid a hail of fire and rubble. The picture spans the space of more than two cover panels. “We gave Art complete freedom on this one,’” Bobby says. “Well, he’s a big Godzilla fan, so even though we paid him for a single cover, he gave us a lot more than that. We had to figure out how to handle printing it as a wrap-around cover, but we certainly weren’t complaining.”

Bobby also shows us some of the early renderings without dialogue, and his notes on where the dialogue should be placed. On one draft, he has marked the words “Mexico City” with red pen, requesting some graphical changes that you will see in the final version. It’s cool to see the storytelling process take shape over these different design drafts.

Next, Bobby shows us the opening pages, which are rendered to depict a movie-style opening: “Toho Co. LTD. Presents an IDW Publishing Production…”

At that point, the story begins on a suspenseful note and carries that momentum right to the last page. Basically, the story picks up a few years after where Kingdom of Monsters left off, and Godzilla and numerous other monsters are wreaking international havoc once again. Into this picture steps our protagonist, who, for reasons that are revealed in the first issue, makes it his personal mission to assemble a band of monster bounty hunters. Trust us, this series really hits the ground running.

The book is drawn by English artist Simon Gane. There’s a gritty, modern edge to Gane’s style that stands out from the crowd, as evident in the first pages depicting Godzilla as he smashes his way toward Washington D.C.

Bobby also points out Gane’s attention to detail and thoughtful character development. Early on in the story, you see a young girl fleeing the mayhem. Spilling out of her bag are designer shoes and iPod headphones—exactly what a privileged young girl might consider her most important belongings.

Ultimately, Bobby sees this new series as an opportunity to take IDW’s Godzilla efforts to the next level. Last year’s Kingdom of Monsters was a smash hit out of the gates, but now IDW’s Godzilla mission is even more focused and ambitious.

“Our challenge now is to prove that Godzilla is not a one-trick pony,” Bobby says. “We need to show that an entire rich universe can be created with the Toho monsters, a universe that can appeal to very wide audience, while staying true to its roots.”

Included in the gallery above are several photos of the initial pages, as well as an exclusive sneak peek at the first page of Part One of the new issue. Enjoy!

P.S. Stay tuned on Friday for a profile on senior graphic artist Chris Mowry and the Godzilla fanaticism that burns behind the scenes at IDW Publishing.

^ That is some good info to hear on. I also feel happy that Art was able to have free reign on the pic. I dunno why, but it makes me warm inside. ;) Definitely looking forward to this series.

Its most likely because I think back when KOM was starting out, fans had high expectations and thought the comic was going to be amazing. But then after KOM issue 4, fans pretty much dropped the series and had loads of negativity to voice about it. (Then again, when you invest money into something you can complain about anything really)

I think JVM is thinking that the same is going to happen with this reboot series, that it will turn out bad. (Even though it looks like most of the major mistakes dealing around KOM seem non-existent in GODZILLA, but time will time after maybe three or four issues.)

JVM was negative on KOM before it came out.

Anyways, I'm cautiously optimistic about the comic. I hope it actually delivers a cohesive story, and hey could be fun.
