I don't care about TV anymore since I have the DVD's. I have Animaniacs, Piny and the Brain, Todd McFarlane's Spawn, and most of Batman: TAS on the DVD. Those shows are still great shows without nostalgia.

shinmattiathekaiju wrote:I love both Batman TAS abd The Brave and The Bold simply because i'm a comic book fan.

I roll my eyes everytime i see some TAS fanboy bashing TB&TB because ''is not dark''.

I found TB&TB better then The Batman. The Batman was okay, I think it was too soon since they just finish JLU like a year before The Batman. It seem like that they wanted a show that can tie in with Batman Begins at the time.

Oh yeah, well your a big stupid doo doo head.
Just kidding mate, but yeah that's kind of the reason why.
To me, some of these new shows can't stack up to the tv shows I grew up with.

I don't watch Nick, CN or Disney anymore and I haven't in years. From what little I've seen of Adventure Time, it looks spastic and idiotic.

My girlfriend and several of my friends love The Big Bang Theory. I have no idea why. I hate it. Sheldon is such a sociopathic prick, and gets so much screen time, that any chance of my enjoying anything else about the show is completely gone. Parson's is a pretty terrific actor for making me hate the character so much, I'll give him that.

That's it. That's the final nail in the coffin for me. I don't even care any more. South Park is dead to me.

You have Asperger's so it offends you? So do I, and while yeah, at first I thought it seemed kind of skreeonk up, I got over it after a week. It's still one of my least favorite episodes, but the only point on the disorder was that the name is unfortunate. The real "skreeonk you" of it is the fact it resolved the previous episode's cliffhanger ("You're Getting Old" - Stan's parents divorced, Randy moved out, his friendship with the other children ended, Kyle and Cartman became friends) by literally pressing the reset button. ("We worked it out, pal, surprise!")

The ending of "You're Getting Old" completely acknowledged the show's tired formulas, right here:

Sharon: You do this all the time! First you're obsessed with baseball fights! Then you need to play Warcraft! Then you gotta be a celebrity chef!
Randy: Why can't you ever just support me?!
Sharon: Support what?! Another stupid dream of yours?!
Randy: Face it Sharon, our son turned ten and you feel old!
Sharon: WHAT does our son turning ten have to do with YOU making the same mistakes again and again?!
Randy: Because I'm unhappy, okay?! I've been unhappy for a long time! [Sharon reflects on this for a moment and her voice goes soft]
Sharon: I'm unhappy too. We both are, obviously. How much longer can we keep doing this? It's like, the same shit just happens over and over and, then in a week it just all resets until- it happens again. Every week it's kind of the same story in a different way but ih, it just keeps getting more and more ridiculous.
Randy: I don't know if I've changed or you have. I just feel like I might not have a whole lot of time left and, I want to enjoy it.
Sharon: I want to enjoy it too, but... I can't fake it anymore. You just seem kind of shitty to me.
Randy: You kind of seem shitty to me too.
Sharon: People get older, Randy. People grow apart.

Like I said before - the show has had some really shitty episodes and in my opinion, based on the way it responded to the preceding episode, "Ass Burgers" was shitty - but it's inconsistent. "You're Getting Old" is one of the best episodes they've done in years - it broke the show's formula completely, to the point most fans were quite sure that the remaining seven episodes would only be continuing build-up towards a finale. But the show isn't churning out ONLY shit - there's still good episodes every now and then, and the old seasons weren't all golden either - there's plenty of duds. Season 2 is especially full of 'em.

The real thing in the show's formula that kills it is an increased reliance on running gags - if you don't find gag X or gay Y funny, the entire episode is lost. Last week's "Faith Hilling" is a perfect example as it satirized ridiculous internet memes. If you didn't find the "Ohh Long Johnson" cat meme or the titular "Faith Hilling" meme funny, pretty much the entire episode is lost after the first eight minutes when the cat plot is introduced. If you do the running gag of the week hilarious, then it'll be a great episode, but if it fails, it can't support itself unless there's a really big emotional hinge. "You're Getting Old" has some really unfunny humor at times, but it contributed to the story and episode's emotion, because if you found it disgusting, you could sympathize with Stan's own discomfort more - it worked on both an emotional and comedic level.

And really, the quality has dropped, but it's doing a lot better than "Family Guy", which seems unable to hinge itself on humor anymore, which is probably why it's been so stuck on the more serious and dramatic plotlines in an attempt to make up for it (Which I enjoy to a degree, but it IS a comedy show.)

That in a way can be applied to a lot of things. Comics with simple, stylisitc art aren't automatically bad for example. But for TV shows it's a shame people couldn't get over the look for Spectacular Spider-Man.

Anyway, I just about hate every goddamn one of those Hardcore Pawn/Storage Wars/Gold Rush Alaska/Swamp People weird, hard, gross, scripted job type shows with a freaky cast of personalities.

Actually the animation in Spectacular was great, it's the art style that was funky.

Well sometimes they just like it because it's better. Compare Batman: TAS to something recent like The Batman (2005-2008) and people will say it's better because it has better animation, story telling and voice acting. I don't think they grew up with them as anything to do with it, that would be like saying people hate the Psycho remake because it was nothing like the original movie that they watch in the 1960's  .

People who don't like AT, RS, or Flapjack really sound like asspained nostalgia-goggle wearers. I'm not saying you don't have a right to your opinion, but a lot of you are whiners that your favorite shows aren't an air any more.

I don't like them because I don't feel them appealing to me. The new Avengers cartoon came out over a year ago and I really enjoy it because it has good characters, a good story and nice animation. I don't know why people think they older stuff because of Nostalgia (Like you mention in the Thing '011 thread that people hate the prequel because it was new when I never saw the 1982 movie until I was 15 which was six years ago. I don't know why I would feel nostalgic for something I didn't see until six years ago)?

You are really missing the point here.

Yup, and that's all there is to it. I've hated South Park for quite a while now, and the "Ass Burgers" episode is the last thing I needed to say screw this show and be done with it entirely.

I was diagnosed with that shit too when I was 12. Guess what? There's no such thing.

Wait, what? There's no such thing as Asperger Syndrome? Yes there is. There's more to Asperger Syndrome than just "social anxiety".

There's a lot of clinical debate on whether or not it actually exists. And even if it does, it's symptoms are so generic that it's probably overdiagnosed.

Huh, well that's news to me.

However, that really doesn't change my feelings on it. I've lived the last 15 years of my life believing that Asperger Syndrome not only exists, but that I have it. One can debate what the symptoms are, but my symptoms are rather clear: I lose control of my hands when I get excited, and I'm socially inept (I have a hard time reading other's emotions/feelings, I have an incredibly difficult time carrying a conversation with people who I share no interests with, etc.).

But, we're moving away from the original point. Wether Asperger Syndrome really exists or not is beside the point, because the "Ass Burgers" episode of South Park is the final reason for me to stop watching the show. I really don't want to watch a television show that says things like that.

I wrote something about a week ago that summarizes this up pretty nicely:

This is not the first instance where South Park did something that made me angry. They had been doing that for years. This was just the final nail in the coffin for me. I have no respect for people who judge/joke/laugh at/etc. other people with a mental illness, especially Asperger Syndrome. Plain and simple. And this now goes for the creators of South Park.

As an aspiring film and TV critic, I believe in the reasons for why I think South Park sucks. I'm not trying to force my opinion down any one's throat. All I'm doing is bringing it and standing by it. If you have your reasons for liking South Park, that's fine. You're allowed to them. The only thing I'll do is disagree with them, but I'm not going to tell you that you're wrong.

Those are just general examples, I could have listed down a lot more. I never said new cartoons are crap, it does seem some people here think people dislike newer stuff because they are new when I disagree. I think most older stuff are better while sometimes newer stuff can be better then the old (Like Red Dragon (2002) for example). Most of the time, older movies and shows are often better.

Degrassi is officially the worst show I've ever seen in my life. They try WAY to hard to be funny, suspenseful, and mature.................. For a Nick show?! This 'show' has terrible acting, bland characters, and spawned a lot of other shitty shows like Dance Academy. Never watch it. Ever.
