Dream Games

Dream Games

Postby Gorosaurus Rex » Sun Apr 15, 2012 10:29 am

This may have already been attempted awhile ago ( I know this has a similar thread in the Toho Games section) , but I'm going to give this a shot.

Essentially, what video games would you love to see produced? They don't need to based on an existing property or series, but what would you love to see produced? Try not to get too out of hand. It would be a little boring if every game devolved into: "I want a fighting game with every single character ever produced in it."

Anyways, I'm on a super hero kick lately so I'm going to use this as a launch board to shoot out one of my long running game ideas.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Marvel Universe
Genre: MMO

I know there is a Marvel MMO already in production, but in my opinion it largely fails due to the fact that it requires you to play as existing characters. Creating your own character within the Marvel universe and getting to interact with various parts of the world along with other players would be boatloads of fun.

Players would create their own hero through a series of editors similar to that of other super hero MMO's like Champions Online or DC Universe, but the big catch here is that instead of picking one of two factions, players chose an origin. Available from the start, players could chose to have their character become a street level hero, a mutant, or enroll in the Avengers Initiative/Academy. Choosing an origin would not affect the gameplay of your hero, but rather how you move through the world and how it perceives you. They also decide where you start out in the game, ie mutants spend early levels at the Xavier Institute. Within these origins you could have options of several other less customizeable smaller backstories that help to shape your character. These may help you create a love interest, or even a nemesis.

Of course, once you start playing the game and reach higher levels you wouldn't be forced to conform to staying the hero you started as. Say you are a mutant, and you grow tired of the Xavier Institute. You can then opt to join Hellfire Club or Marauders, doing this would change your reputation and how other characters in the world perceive you.

Throughout the game you would interact with characters from across the Marvel Universe. How they react to you ranges from your deeds and how respected you are in certain parts of the Marvel universe. For example, if you are a low level street hero who spends most of their time fighting criminals and villains on par with people like the Shocker, a high ranking villain such as Magneto would have little to no respect for you and may not even bother with you.

Marvel could also capitalize off this and allow the game to tie into its comics. Big crossovers and events could manifest themselves in the game and players could take part in the ever changing world.

A free-roaming Sonic game. I'd have it have multiple characters, too, to capitalize on an open-world system.

Imagine it: playing as Sonic gives you unrestricted freedom and exploratory missions, playing as Shadow gives you weaponry, destruction, stealth, and GUN missions.

Unfortunately, such a story-heavy and open-world game with a semi-serious tone is unlikely to ever happen, what with the ever-gowing popularity of "silly Sonic".

Well not really. I find it almost insulting that you can still want more after Mother 3.

Well, I view Mother 4 as more of a fan love letter than an actual continuation. From what I've seen so far, this looks like the closest thing we'll get to Itoi making a fourth and it isn't relying on stupid things like Ness teaming up with Ninten and Lucas to defeat a Giygas-Porky fusion like most fan games I've seen.

Oh and I'd love to see a Sega based fighting game that brings back obscure characters from the Genesis games.

I have two games.

A true, free-roam Preadator game. Not the wanna-be free roaming that Concrete Jungle had. It could be set in a modern day city, futuristic city, or better yet a developing world on an alien planet. That way you could mix in city skylines and wilderness, humans and wild animals, and include xenomorphs if you really want.

The second would basically be a remake of the pre-cu Star Wars Galaxies. It saddens me so much that game was ruined by the developers. It truly was just a sandbox Star Wars universe that you could do whatever you wanted in. There was no lame level restrictions, no boring "kill 15 of these to continue on your quest" missions, player housing, space combat, bio-engineering creatures, a deep and rewarding crafting system, huge battles between rebels and imperials, etc. In my opinion, it was the most original and unique MMO ever and deserves to be remade.

I would LOVE for a Marvel MMO like DCUO.

I hate this idea they have where you play as characters already created. I don't want to travel around as Spidey, and see a million other spidey's.

I also like Goji-Fan's idea of an open world Predator Game.

Not really a dream game, per say, but I would have loved to have seen what Metroid: Dread would have turned into. Just out of sheer curiosity about where Sakamoto thinks the story would go. I hope we never get to see it, however, as Fusion is the absolute conclusion to Metroid's narrative. The absolute resolution.

There you go.

This is what inspired Simon Strange's idea for the new Godzilla game.

It is a Video Game that uses real trading cards to hold characters. It had Marvel, DC and Hellboy releases.

The cool thing was since all the packs were all made on the same game, the cards could be used together, so you COULD have Marvel vs DC matches.

either Nights into Dreams release download or Nights 3 for a console other than Wii.

I'm just joking, but it's my dream to write a game, does that count?

That Predator game would be sexy.

Like others have said, Battlefront 3. They should also include destructible capital ships, and include maps like Death Star- Space and Endor- Space, which would include the Death Star II. These would also be destructible by utilizing the same methods in the movies. Same with the Droid Control Ship.

A Dragon Ball game spanning from the very beginning of Dragon Ball to the end of Z, maybe including GT.
