My WHINE is about...

Y'know what? Screw it. There IS NO Showa time-line that is set in concrete. This so-called "kid" may not have researched certain aspects far enough, but so what? I've made the same argument in the past; that perhaps there's more to how it's all laid out that what the "majority" deems fit.

Posit: Gigan is a cyborg. A creature made up of biological material that has had bionic enhancements grafted onto its frame. Perhaps the King Ghidorah (the sluggish, ratty looking, out of character Ghidorah) in G vs. Gigan was in fact a clone...Does G vs. Gigan take place before or after DAM? Any definitive answers? I don't mean to conjecture about how one kaiju was still alive at this point or, etc. I mean, if we go by what kaiju are alive or dead...Well, at least we'd be saying King Kong Escapes takes place after DAM, right? Baragon was dead at the end of F vs. the World, but he's alive in DAM? So that took place after...? When there's no mention of Monster Island? Where this unknown monster was locked up?

I could go on and on, but the entire idea of hating on the "kid" for trying to make sense of something that has no REAL quantification is a bit ludicrous, if not entirely, well, silly.

There's no APPROVED timeline, so get over acting like there is. What we have is what we have and it leaves plenty of doors open for speculation; there's no reason to diminish the verisimilitude of the Godzilla series by taking that kind of 4-Dimensional thinking or reasoning away from it. It exists as it is. To add more than is there is the same as taking it away, and as it stands, plenty of theories have high possibilities/probabilities.

When someone can show me the approved Toho timeline of events in the Showa era, then we can start hurling stones.

Godzilla versus Gigan takes place in the 70s. DAM was 1999. Chances are Ratdorah was the same one was gang raped in '99. Plus everything in DAM looked like... THE WORLD OF TOMORROOOOOOWWWWWWWW..

There is a approved Showa timeline.

It's called all showa Godzilla movies take place the year they were made, some of the other toho movies are included and DAM is the end of the showa series.

So, Japan and America we're able to fly to the farthest reaches of our galaxy, not just the moon by '65? Maser tanks, M-Cycle Light rays, Jet Jaguar, and all the other "future" tech available are just common place by '65 in this timeline? So, it isn't our timeline anyways? So their '65 was far more advanced and developed than ours? Obviously events that have occured in our world never happened in theirs, otherwise many things such as the space-travel by '65 couldn't have happened. The timestamp MAY indicate '65 (which it never actually does) however it is clearly a more advanced, "futuristic" society. E.G., the future.

Maybe.

Oh well; my whine is that there's some real, real F'ed up stuff that goes down with people in this fandom when you *gasp* dare to have an opinion that's different.

My personal opinion on this whole matter is that while the Showa series was being made, I doubt those making the movies were all that concerned with this thing called "continuity" which we modern fans seem to have built a shrine to.

However, once buzz started to be made about continuity, I think Toho decided to step in, take a look at the Showa series, and make an official continuity. Thankfully the Showa series was easy to piece together, as most of the movies don't really have anything to do with each other aside from a reference here and there (The Fairies mentioning Godzilla lost to Mothra in Godzilla Vs. Mothra, I think Gigan's previous movie got mentioned in his second appearance, Mechagodzilla's movies being connected, etc.).

But yeah, I do have to agree with Captain (yes, I promoted him back to Captain, I just can't stay mad at him when he looks at me with those puppy dog eyes). Is there really any harm in someone coming up with their own timeline? Yes, it's wrong by official standards. But he flat-out states it's his own timeline, and even thanks members for giving him some corrections.

Sooooooo...chill.

Well people get over act up about personal canons because some fans treat them as if they are official facts. The whole timeline debate reminds how Dragon Ball fans fight over what's canon or not. Just like most of the DBZ movies, I think it's pretty clear that the Heisei and the Millennium series are not canon to the Showa series expect for Gojira.

My whine: Snobby collectors (or perhaps collector, singular?) in the SH thread. Not sure if I should laugh or shake my head...how anyone could be "aggravated" over something so trivial is beyond me.

I do get what bugs Legion about people selling vinyls in favor of MonsterArts. Many collectors love and feel passionately about these collectibles, and it's understandable that they'd feel perplexed--maybe even frustrated--when other collectors are hurrying to get rid of something they see so much value in.

But on the other hand, it's just personal preference, and they're just toys.

tymon is a cool guy, and I may not get/agree with his reasoning for selling his vinyls, but I don't let our differing preferences in Godzilla toys cause any personal issues. I just hope he'll give me an early shot at any cool figures he's unloading. ;)

All you collector people are pretty cool folks, but sometimes we all need to step back for a little perspective and try to be less invested in other peoples' opinions.

And other people here argue about movies. Movies, tymon...movies.

I also think it's a cop-out to practically belittle someone's interests that way. At the end of the day we're all here because we're passionate about a fictional dinosaur-creature who stomps on fake buildings and wrestles other fake dinosaur-creatures, big bugs and goofy aliens. To say something like "They're just toys" like it's something clever that I've never heard before is a little weird. It's almost like saying that taking toy collecting seriously is ridiculous because they're just children's playthings.

And that's all I have to or want to say on this subject.

I could draw a religious comparison here, but I don't feel like it.

I literally cannot comprehend as to why people a pissing and moaning over other people's taste.

Buying the new MonsterArts figures does nothing bad. Its supporting a line that will deliver more as time goes on.

"Waaaaaahhhhh, you're selling old vinyls..."

Okay? How is giving someone else a chance to appreciate a figure a bad thing?

Does not compute.

As I said on another site, I just wish some Marmit/Gigabrain/M1 collectors would catch MonsterArts fever and feel the need to thin their collections. ;) lol

Legion, are you sure you don't want to cut me a deal on that standard Marmit Biollante? You're going to need space for that MonsterArts version... and Gigabrain Ghidorah!

I'd just like to know one thing about collectors hating the idea of other people selling their vinyls for the MonsterArts.

Why?

Why do you care?

Appreciate your own toys. It's said other people's money. If they feel the need to sell their toys off, then let them.

I dont want to type it all out again, so here's what I posted in the MAs thread.

I cant help buy laugh at anyone who seriously thinks SHMA's is the way of the future.

It's not out of personal preference for the charm of a vinyl figure (I love me some super-articulated figures), but rather how people delude themselves.

MonsterArts is the here and now. It's future is uncertain; it may last until the Heisei era, it may last until all of the eras, or it may crash and burn after Ghidorah gets released. We dont know.

But vinyls? Vinyls are here to stay. They will never go away; their future is guaranteed.

MAs is a pet project of Bandai's, to ty and mimic the success of their Ultra-Act line. But unlike Ultraman, Godzilla is dead in Japan. He has no market value now, and no movie or event to tie into. And the LP movie (if it happens), along with the 60th anniversary are years off.

In short, this line is living on borrowed time.

So yes, when people say they're going to "replace" their collection for a few MAs figures, i do think it's stupid.

I cant wait until people start selling their figures IN ANTICIPATION for new releases.

"Oh man, they are SO gonna release Biollante! I just know it! I'm gonna go ahead and sell my Bandai one so I have room on my shelf!"

-2 years later-

"...any day now!"

^^ Words to collect by.

I love my vinyls. I am not replacing them for anything. They're much much easier to do stop motions with than super articulated figures.
