I agree, bring back the '54 roars. Or at least something along the '55 or '84 roars.

I'm fond of the '62 roars considerably. I also just really love the entire '62 incarnation as a whole.

Gojira never made those sounds.

-_- Yes he did - once when he busts through the high tension wires, and another time when he finds the birds in the cage (there's one or two other occurences as well). It's also in the YouTube clip that Wrinkledlion posted.

@TV - Yeah I watched KKvsG for the first time in a while last night, man those roars are great (there's even a brief 84-ish roar when he's getting bombarded by missiles in the water).

There is a difference between Godzilla using certain roars, and him using roars that sound like certain roars. He never used the (1984-1991) roars.

Bottom line for me, either the 1954 roar, the 1984-1989 roar, the 1995 roar, or probably the millennium roar.

I think it should be somewhat a mix of 54/55 with a little zilla/godzilla 2000 in it.To keep the modern roar, but get the more beastly effects from Zillas roars and Godzilla 2000 roars.

Last night I was listening to my CD of Wonderland Records' GODZILLA:KING OF THE MONSTERS album, and in the course of the tales, Godzilla Vs. Amphibion, and Godzilla Vs. The Alien Invasion(and it ain't the Mexicans in that one). The producers used the Big-G's original, classic roars from the original flick. Which are rather scary, and provided a sense of menace, like with the G-'85 through King Ghidorah. Although, Godzilla's roars made forG-2000, were quite well done. On top of having a roar reconizable as his. But the filmmakers added some interesting nuances, with various growls ,and grunts in order to convey various emotions. Including surprise, and curiosity. I do have to ask. I know that that flick ,for its American release had lots of sound effects added to some scenes, and even Orga's roar was changed as well. Was the Big-G's changed in anyway for the American release ? Because if they did, I wouldn't mind getting the sound guys who worked on that for the LP film. They did a wonderful job there.

I definetly think Godzilla should be downright beastial, without any kind of Showa-based roars. I think his roars should be like these:

Very terrifying, and realistic. Certainly the kind of creature you would make in this kind of film.

Especially liked the the lower growls used around the two minute mark. Quite scary and threatening. Have a definite "Don't Skreeonk with me vibe."

^ Actually, while I like some of those roars, I also think a lot of them were excessive in the growling sounds.

If LP decides for something demonic, the roars could sound like these:

Very grimdark, and evil.

Two things Godzilla doesn't need to be at all.

The link just sounded like someone took a whole shitload of different roars and threw them in a blender.

Why does everyone want this movie to be super grim and dark? Dark=/=Good a lot of the time. Besides, this seems like Godzilla's big comeback film, I think it should appeal to everyone, fans and non-fans alike and not be something so dark it becomes over the top. I just want a fun movie.

As for the roar, I just want something along the lines of the Showa roar or the Hesei one. I don't think they really need to change that aspect of the character drastically.

There's a very common nerd culture fascination in making things "dark" because it will make the content seem more mature and therefore above criticism of being childish. And that something lighter in tone is inherently stupid or silly and that dark content immediately has more depth and importance.

Yeah, I know that TV. I just find the whole "dark is awesome lol" philosophy silly. There's plenty of "dark" things that are just as immature (like the 90's dark age comics). I just want a good Godzilla film no matter what the tone, but I'd prefer something that old fans will like and the general public will enjoy as well. I'm fine with whatever tone they go with as long as it's a good film, but I'd prefer something like the 60's Godzilla films which had a tone that anyone could enjoy.

I agree. It's much more impressive for a film to have a rich narrative range and be thrilling, touching, and humorous then to be hard line dark and grim the whole time.
