Why are you using wikipedia as a source? Don't you you even remember the movie?

Was Godzilla Subdued? Sure. Defeated? Definitely not.

I just did that bcasueyou said something about a horrible wound. Also, I think Kiryu did a good job of getting rid of Goji. Sure it was a temporary, volatile, unsuccessful fix, ut thn again, involving Godzilla, aren't they all? :) Godzilla didnt come back in the same film. That was it. Screen Time over.

Godzilla has regenerative qualities..the wound he received from Kiryu's drill hand was already healed up by the time we got to the film's final moments. Kiryu did a good job of getting rid of Godzilla on both occasions..but I would go as far to call it a defeat. Godzilla would easily return in the same universe..but it's unlikely that Kiryu would.

Godzilla didnt come back because the whole reason he was attacking Japan was because his ancestor's bones were inside Kiryu. Now that Kiryu has sunken himself (with Godzilla) there's no need for him to return to the surface.

Kiryu was a great two movie character and him winning each battle was a cool change of pace but indeed at the end of tokyo sos when he sunk with godzilla signalled that he shouldnt return again and to keep it at those 2 movies

here is an idea, have it be after tokyo s.o.s and have it have to do with a space monster like ghidorah come and attack earth. the mothra twins try to stop him but end up get beat up pretty badly. so the japanese government decide to reawaken kiryu from his underwater grave with Godzilla and at the end Kiryu and the mothra twins fight ghidorah in an epic battle in osaka or mount fuji or something like that.

I've thought of this before, although my proposal would only be for one film. But yeah, a giant mech that loses the Godzilla origins and some of the Godzilla based design.

This could be a neat television series, with a monster-of-the-week, Ultraman-like format. Instead of the science patrol, we'd have a G-Force style outfit investigating a threat, then calling in Kiryu when it's time to take the fight to the big bad.

As a disclaimer, understand that whatever I say is personal opinion; please take it with a grain of salt. Every one here is entitled to their opinion.
I prefer the Heisei MechaGodzilla over Kiryu, even though I cannot deny that [Kiryu]'s visual design is far more dynamic than the more reserved MGII. The biggest criticism I had against Kiryu [at the time] was his lack of protection; a lot of his surface area underneath the armor was exposed. MGII had far more protection and appeared more like a diamond-covered titanium golem, as opposed to Kiryu which looked like a slim Godzilla in an H.R. Giger-inspired biomechanical bodysuit, covered by titanium braces. Kiryu sacrificed protection for speed, resulting in a MechaGodzilla with lighter armor. Playing as him in Godzilla: Save the Earth and watching the movies for a clearer perception of his backstory, I've gained a newfound measure of respect for Kiryu.
Kiryu might have been better represented had Toho eliminated 80 percent of the 'Achille's Heels' that they've given Kiryu.

I love Kiryu. He has a great design, cool backstory, and much potential for fanfics or movies. I could see him becoming more and more Godzilla-like.

I prefer Heisei MG over all of them, but Kiryu is definetly my second favorite.

The Heisei MG is NOT "MG II", regardless of what Sony Home Entertainment wants you to believe.

Mechagodzilla 2 was in TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA.

Kiryu is pretty cool.

I like his physical design overall, and I don't know how many others enjoy this, but I love the refueling and the fact that he is a cyborg.

Kiryu's grown on me lately. I love his back story, probably one of the most interesting Toho kaiju. Even though he's pretty fragile he's really cool. I prefer Heisei Mechagodzilla most of all, but Kiryu's my second favorite. I think Toho should revisit the Kiryu saga, maybe in the form of a mini series in between GXMG and Tokyo SOS. It be cool to see Kiryu duke it out with the likes of Anguirus or Rodan.

Oo, an "inbetween-quel" isn't a half bad notion. It's basically impossible that it'll happen via a film from Toho, but it's certainly in the realm of possibility with IDW.

Kiryu isn't fragile. His pilots have the tendency to be knocked out and he runs out of power easily. Those are his limitations. That seems to = fragility around here. Which is cute....

BUT IT'S WROOONG!

I don't know, dude. Pilots with negligible stamina, plus a dismal power reserve? Those sound like pretty severe Achilles' Heels to me.

But the cyborg himself doesn't "break every time he trips" like people around here tend to claim. Besides, Kiryu is a beast when he Godzillas out.

Well Kiryu only Godzillaed out twice, and never mid-battle. Kiryu does tend to go offline quite a bit, and his armor was dented by Shirasagi fire. So, he's quite fragile compared to the other mechs.
