Glad to know Bobby researched Godzilla thoroughly before commenting. The 60s movies have NOTHING to do with the 90s movies. And the 90s movies DO have hard continuity. Even though the time travel is sloppy, it's HARD. Jeez.... Im not buying this.

I swear if you showed Bobby Ninja Scroll and Ninja Resurection, he'd called Resurrection a sequel.

I think you're missing what he's saying here. This is directed to the casual fan/non-fan/new fan, not guys like you or I. What he's pointing out is that as a new reader, you don't need to feel bogged down by almost 60 years of continuity; it isn't a hard continuity as a whole. The 90's DO have continuity, but that's just about it. Outside of some nominal references or nods to the previous films, there's very little continuity in the Showa series, and I know that's a statement that's going to set some people off, but there's just not much there.

The series, as a whole has little HARD continuity. The 90's does, but then sometimes it doesn't. I mean, they tend to ignore anything that happened in RoG. And once you've introduced time travel to a CONTINUOUS story, well, you've got yourself a get out of anything free card. I mean, if they went back and kept Goji from being created until 91 then how was there a Biollante? What about the entire sub-plot to SG involving the soldier and his friend who was killed by Goji? So on an so on...

I love you Wataru, but that was a big leap you took into, "this guy doesn't know anything". And if you showed him Ninja Scroll and Resurrection anybody with half a brain would assume that, yes, they are related. They're marketed and packaged as such and there's nothing in two films that say, DEFINITELY, they aren't related. WE know that because we know, not because we're so insightful...

Just edit it out. Since both comments are made by you, it'll be easy to take it out of existence.

Totally looking forward to this comic! Then again, I look forward to any G comic. Even if it isn't all that great (*cough, KOM, cough*) it's still nice that we're getting something of the G-man until a new movie comes out! But, definitely digging the usage of kiryu-goji this time around, heisei is starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth.
:g2k: End of line.......

I like the Heisei Godzilla, but I also like the Kiryu-goji as well, so either way I'm excited for both the new ongoing series, and Half Century War.

Well, Mothra, at the very least, was mentioned....

The Millennium Godzilla being in this kind of a story is just odd to me. This premise would have benefited alot more from a more generic/timeless design for Godzilla, IMHO. It'll be odd seeing what is clearly a 2K monster in period settings.

But this premise is something I've wanted and stewed on for years. Cannot wait to check this out!

^ Still, surely you'd prefer a Millennium-style Goji over a Heisei-style Goji, right?

Most of my primary issues with the Heisei-style Godzilla (stupid proportions, horrible set of dorsal fins) aren't really a big deal in a comic book medium, plus it works as a generally well-rounded generic Godzilla; other then a fans immediate association for it, it's a timeless design. But the hyper-angular and pointy Millennium design they've gone with just screams "21st Century"; it's a stylized and somewhat artificial look about it (it's a "design that looks designed", if that makes sense). I have problems with both, but this premise just lends it self to a more vanilla incarnation then the 2K look.

I think I understand your reasoning.

Personally, I don't think I would use EITHER; I'd rather see a design based on King-Goji, Mosu-Goji, or Sokogecki-Goji.

Not me, certainly. The Heisei godzilla is still one of the best Godzilla desings, and there's something about the more organic, bestial, designs about the older suits that I enjoy, and feel modern designs lack.

The Sockogeki Goji? Really? That thing has everything people hate about the Heisei suits, and more (bone white eyes, which while neat, aren't suitabel for this kind of tale, those crazy clown feet, and his face looks silly from certain angles)

I think Sokogecki-Goji has much more in common with the early Showa suits than it does with the Heisei suits. Also, as mentioned by TokyoVigilante, the faults that the suit has can easily be remedied in this medium. Just look at Art Adam's cover!

I believe Tokyo was referring to the Heisei Godzilla. While it probably applies to GMK Godzilla, who shares the same flaws, Heisei Godzilla is a much better 'general', 'force-of-nature' Godzilla than GMK is. He can look heroic, evil, sad, and give funny faces in comedic moments. GMK can only be evil.

For me it's all about the fins. I just don't like the jagged fins, whether the G2000, Kiryu or even the somewhat-rounded-but-still-somewhat-pointy GFW versions...I just don't find them as distinctive or iconic as the classic fins, which have a bizarre, unique look.

In my opinion, the jagged spikes make Godzilla look more like one of those monsters that's inspired by Godzilla, like Dr. Demonicus's monster or Gfantis. Again, though, just my opinion.

Oh, and as for the comic, I'm down, but then, I'm down for anything at this point as long as it's not KOM. Man was that disappointing.

Why do his fins look like a bunch of insect wings? :|

Sounds like the GMK Goji... Is it? Sorry, I don't know all of the terms of certain Godzilla suits. Just judging from the description, it sounds like GMK cuz of the large feet and white eyes.

Yes, that's the one he's referring to. It's a personal favorite suit of mine, so of course I want to see it used more.
