I myself will be donating $30 once I get paid. Which gets you a BD copy of the film, and your name in the credits.

In theory it all sounds good. But I noticed there is nothing in their FAQ regarding what happens to all contributions if the project falls through? If its less than $10 I could just call it chalk up to life & experience of loss-but if I am going to invest $30 or more in something I want a gauaranteed refund if it falls through. Of course, if it is viewed as an investment risk, well I've never been good at taking risks. I'll save my money.
There has never been a "Scientifically Accurate" Dinosaur portrayed on any Television Show, Movie, or Documentary. Only what the human imagination can conceive, and I'm ok with that.

I'll watch this just to see the T-Rex beating the Spino.

Hey all, this is Ian Cresswell, writer/director for the JP:Origins project. I found this forum discussion on a Google search result and wanted to come be a part of the discussion if you'd like. Please let me know any questions you all might have. :)

"They" is just a group of Jurassic Park fans who love the books and movies, and want to contribute to the JP community with a fanfilm :). We won't be making any money, we won't be trying to "remake" Jurassic Park, it won't be a sequel, etc. It will be some fans' vision of a prequel to Jurassic Park. It's entirely for fun, entertainment, and in honor of Michael Crichton and Stan Winston :)

shinmattiathekaiju wrote:What is the plot about?

The plot will follow Jurassic Parks' creation, from 1980 to 1989. We will learn how John Hammond gained the funding for the cloning/genetic engineering, we'll see how the team is assembled (Wu, Nedry, Muldoon, etc), we'll follow the struggles and triumph of attempting to recover the dino DNA, and we'll get to find out what it's like to bring back dinosaurs that man knows so little about. What we want to do throughout the story is highlight many of the themes Crichton emphasizes in the novel. For example, Crichton begins the novel "Jurassic Park" talking about the new found power of genetic technology (Even 20 years after the book's release, genetic technology and research is a topic of hot debate). Through the book, Hammond exemplifies the hubris of man thinking he can control nature, whereas Malcolm contrasts by pointing out the inherent flaws in this kind of thinking (via Chaos Theory and "life will find a way"). Our film won't feature Malcolm, but along the way various characters will voice concerns over the degree of recklessness with which scientific power is being wielded, and the total lack of understanding of creatures being brought back from a distant past. We will also be tying the end of the short film into the events of the first film in what we think is a cool way. We don't wanna give it away, but we think the prequel will be a fun set-up to then watch JP1.

The sheer about of buthurt the Spino caused is legendary. Mostly because whining about it is incredibly pointless. Its a movie for gods sake! That's like whining that Grid the alien beat two predators, of Mothra beat Godzilla. My goodness, I will never understand how people can get so upset about the Spino vs T. Rex battle.

Actually, I liked the T-rex vs Spino scene. I was just reffering to how the fanboys and/or paleontologists would see it.

How about this all you Spino/T.Rex fanboys, what if 2 Tyrannosaurs killed a Spinosaurus? The Rex fans would be happy and the Spinosaurus would still look powerful. It would also be the most kick ass battle sequence ever conceived.

Anyways, the main problem with JP: Prime Survival was that the models were animated poorly. Hopefully that can be avoided here. I hope this project goes through because I honestly can't get enough Jurassic Park, and if this becomes successful I'd love to see a novel accurate film revision/remake whatever you'd call it in the future.

A 2 T-rexes vs Spinosaurus fight would actually be pretty cool, definetly better than the first one. Anyways, I have high hopes for this film, and i seriously doubt they'll either cancel the movie, or the models will be bad.

I'm guessing they'll throw other suprises at us, like T-rex vs Giganotosaurus, or Spinosaurus vs Charcaradontasaurus.

What are some of the species of dinosaurs that we'll get to see in the film?
Although we haven't determined 100% exactly which animals will appear in the film, there is a very high likelyhood of the following dinosaurs:
-Tryranosaurus Rex
-Velociraptor
-Triceratops
-Brachiosaurus
-Stegosaurus
-Compsognathus
And a moderate likelyhood of the following dinosaurs:
-Parasauralopholus
-Pachysephalosaurus
-Dilophosaurus

Just skimmed the website and I'm gonna guess that Spinosaurus and the others you mentions are a no go ;)

Maybe it's because for many by that point, T. Rex was their hero.

Maybe it's because Horner, a greatly respected paleontologist at that time, threw caution (and, arguably, logic) to the wind and leapt at the chance to replace Rex with something that science now suggests was actually the weaker therapod.

Maybe it's because that because of that fight, we now have to suffer idiots that think Spinosaurus was the ultimate death machine and don't want to hear the contrary.

Take your pick.

All of the above. It irritates me to see people say an actual encounter between the two wold end like it did in the film. T.Rex was basically second only to Godzilla when I was little, imagine a childhood hero of yours getting killed, and if that's not bad enough the movie was pretty mediocre. And there's Horner...God I hate Horner...

Agreed. i can understand him featuring a film where T-rex isn't the big bad, but him exagerrating the Spinosaurus to the point of a super predator? The same dinosaur that was said to only hunt fish and small dinosaurs?

If I were him, I would've had the Rex and Spino fight, but the film continues on before we see who wins, so we can figure it out ourselves and therefore it would actually be fun.

Don't count the Spinosaurus out just yet. We're in the works of trying to see what we can do to bring the Spino back in JP:O. The main goal is to make sure it fits reasonably well in the story though. Throwing the Spino in to just show that we can would seem cheap, so we want to be confident that it either makes sense, or is badass enough that people will overlook it if it doesn't ;).

I sent a message to the JP origins facebook, but it can't hurt to ask here.

What would happen with people's money that they donated if for some reason the film failed to release? Would we be refunded? Or given some new rewards?
Don't try to be something else. Don't try to be less. Great things are going to happen in your life. Great things. And with that will come great responsibility.

I don't mean to sound ignorant but if you guys could do something similar to this,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cv0wjS3nvso
you'd have masses of Rex fans fapping to your fan film, I could see an intro battle between a Spino and a Rex or two taking place on Isla Sorna in modern time, then cut away to the actual film. Now, that alone would be worth a $100 :)

Also quick question, will the human characters be CG or will you have actual actors?
