That Colonel in Gvs.MGII is a total dick....

"Hobbies...Pteranodon's?"
"Don't you know what they are, sir? They're small flying dinosaurs."
"ENOUGH. THIS ISN'T SOME SUMMER CAMP FOR DINOSAUR FREAKS LIKE YOU. RABBLERABBLERABBLEINSULTSWONDERING IF THERE HASN'T BEEN SOME KIND OF MISTAKE."

Seriously bro? You ASKED. Hobbies is clearly on the form. You ASKED AND HE TOLD YOU. What, ids he not allowed to have Hobbies? Why is it on the form then? Is he only allowed to enjoy certain hobbies that fall within G-Force regulation? Leave the poor guy alone! He has a right to enjoy whatever hobby he likes outside of work and not be criticized. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU'RE THE ONE WHO BROUGHT IT UP.

The strangest moment for me in the whole film. The Colonel was just a total asshole out of nowhere for no reason.
It isn't conderacting if i'm pissed.

That's...great?

I mean, besides it being a really minor thing to get annoyed by, how was he supposed to react when he gets a new pilot who puts down "dinosaurs" as a hobby and then talks to him like he's a little kid.

"Right sir. Dontcha know what they are, sir? They're small flying dinosaurs! :) " -flaps hands-

Whatshisface came off as a total goofball; an embarrasment to G-Force. The recruiter had every right to be annoyed. He probably expected a competent soldier, not a dinosaur freak.

God damn it, now you've sucked me into it.

I liked the Colonel. I found Kazuma irritating and generally ditzy. Stealing scientific specimens, failing to show up for military duties, and *sigh* flapping his hands at a superior because the man must be a moron that doesn't know what pteranodons are...ugh.

Okay, to be fair, the Colonel was hard on him before he'd actually pulled most of his stupid shit. Regardless, I have a feeling that if he'd served under the Colonel earlier on in his career, he'd probably be a hell of a lot more mature and capable character than the one we saw.

Bingo. Whether or not he was a dino freak isn't important, but being a "competent soldier" sure as hell is.

^ Well we don't want every solider character to be mature and capable. I'm kinda glad they made him so different from the norm, it puts some variety into the series characters. Although I think Toho missed out on a good chance to develop the character a bit.

Kazuma's foolishness did make for a good character, it just happened to be a character type that annoys me. That doesn't mean that they shouldn't have included him, it means his characterization was effective. That said, I still think he needed a few more angry colonel's in his early life.

I found Kazuma to be condescending in when he did the hands flapping thing. The Colonel's reaction seemed apt.

Kazuma Aoki reminds me of Ashton Kutcher in some way - ditzy, irritating, and no respect for boundaries (eg. breaking into Azusa's lab, stealing the plant specimen).

I didn't see anything wrong the Colonel's reaction to Aoki. He definitely was expecting someone more qualified than a Pteranodon Fanboy. But despite his lack of character development, I feel that his time in G-Force actually made him more 'mature' towards the end of the film. But it did not make me like him any more.

I think both Kazuma AND the Colonel were at fault here. Kazuma was very childish, but the Colonel didn't need to lose his temper either.

What I thought was awesome about this relationship though is that by the end of the film the Colonel see's that he's sort of an oddball genius and begins to have a grudging respect for this guy he see's as an embarrassment. Remember, Kazuma solved Mechagodzilla's mobility problem, give it extra firepower and found a use for Garuda at the same time. He pretty much killed two birds with one stone. Case and point the Colonel finds out that Kazuma has replaced Garuda's pilot without permission from the higher ups. His reason? Garuda was his invention and it seems only "right" that he be the one flying it.

Now had this happened earlier in the film the Colonel would have chewed him up for this but here he let's it slide and later he's cracking jokes with him about "coming back from vacation" after Kazuma get's Garuda back online from Rodan's attack.

The Colonel realizes that while Kazume can be an embarrassment to G-Force at times he is also an asset and see's what the higher ups see in him. He probably still doesn't like the guy but knows he's an important team member. I like that.

The Colonel was right to be harsh. He was looking for a pilot for the multi-billion dollar U.N. funded last-hope-for-humanity.

Also, who the skreeonk lists "Pteradons" as a hobby? Like, "Dinosaurs" are a hobby would work. But why such a specific animal? It's not like "Frogs" are a hobby; you could breed frogs. Why couldn't his hobby be Paleontology or Paleobiology? Is the pilot having a "Pteradon hobby" the screenwriters idea of clever foreshadowing?

Screw this character and this movie.

I'd be irate with him too. If he's such a pteranodon nut, he'd know that they're not dinosaurs. I dunno what words the Japanese dialogue uses, but I hope that it's not also not correct.

It was always fun to see the Pteranodon nerd get chewed out, kinda reminds of Full Metal Jacket when the Drill Sergeant would chew out Private Pile.
