Just ran into the episode with Dorako, Gigas, and the return of Red King. Fantastic episode, I gained some respect for Red King. Dorako is also pretty awesome, perhaps my third favorite Ultra monster. He does remind me of Gigan, the way he fights and everything.

Yep, Genfire, Mirror Knight and Jean-bot took month after the movie to get revealed. So there's still a bit of hope on the horizon for Hyper Zetton and Saga...

^Maybe he's referring to the fact that people are still seeing the movie. Either way there's hope yet for Hyper Zetton.

@PiPP: if that was the entire fight it was really disappointing. However, like the man said, it may have just been bits of the fight. Still, there's something very wrong about seeing Antlar defeated by a Specium ray.

Japanese audiences seem to be responding more positively than Westerners who've seen the movie. Jim, his friend JR, and one Tom Constantine were all fairly disappointed with the film, while many Japanese viewers are giving it four and five star ratings, as seen there on Yahoo!Japan.

I have to agree with Dai, I hope there's a director's cut or something. I'm gonna be pissed if Black King gets stuck in yet another crappy fight *Glares at UGL*.

Dai, don't most Ultramen/Kamen Rider/Sentai movies make their money from toy sales?

I enjoyed Legends' Black King fight... >>

And, yes, I believe most of the money for these franchises is in the toy sales but that doesn't change the fact that Rider films seem to be box office gold compared to Ultra films most of the time. :|

Are we talking about box office ticket sales or quality of films? If the former I can't comment, but if the latter... I disagree. Granted, I haven't seen the majority of either franchise's films, but what I have seen has been much stronger in the Ultra series. :eh:

He meant ticket sales. Usually Kamen Rider or Sentai flicks outdo Ultraman films when it comes to ticket sales. I believe it was one of the reasons why Revenge of Belial didn't do so great at the box office plus the fact that it was played at only 169 theaters, I think (Saga is being played in over 300 theaters in Japan).

Well Sentai and Rider are usually double-billed in the summer. And of course there's the usual Last Year X This Movie in both Rider and Sentai.

And the fact, that given their continued presence on TV, Rider and Sentai are probably more relevant to Japan's youngest audiences.

You can find a number of ways to explain that, assuming it's true at all. I won't pretend to know.

Much obliged. That seems to bode well for the film. :)

Oh my God yes! Black King was a top level monster who gave Jack hell. It pains me to see him and Tyrant reduced to cannon fodder.

I finally got ahold of Mill Creek's full release of the original Ultraman, so I've begun watching the second half. I just watched episodes 21-24, and I'm already noticing an overall improvement in the show.

BTW, Gubira sounds awfully similar to Barugon........

Huh, that's funny Rody, I just got the same set as well :P.

I haven't seen the series in so long, so I've decided to watch all the episodes in order and I watched the first three today. I think the beginning episode was a teeny bit slow, but it was pretty fun. Until rewatching the second episode, I didn't really care for Baltan, but the monster's grown on me. As for Neronga, he might be an incognito Baragon, but I still love him to death.

I admit, so far the series is sort of mediocre in quality. Nevertheless, I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

Here's to hoping Mill Creek can get MORE Ultra shows in the near future!!

EDIT: I don't actually own the complete series; only the Volume 1 release. I have the complete release out from the library.

I'm dying to see a Region 1 release of Ultra Q, Ultraseven (not the TNT version) or any of the other shows. It's super hard to track this stuff down aside from Ultraman and Ultraman Tiga. I've been really getting into the franchise and I'm dying for some more Ultra.

As for quality, I've always found this a step above Johnny Sokko and Ambassador Magma. I might be a bit biased, but I think it's in part due to Tsuburaya.

The legal dispute between Tsuburaya and Chaiyo is still going, and until that is dealt with don't expect any TPC-approved releases of the early Ultra Series in the US.

Nope.

Last summer there was a lot of buzz on messages boards like Henshin Justice and Monster Zero (and here too, I think) that Tsuburaya Pro had won some final victory over Chaiyo. But, unfortunately, the people reporting that news misunderstood the story and got it wrong. The legal battles continue, with no end in sight.
