Mysterians UK R2 BFI DVD

Greetings All,

I was just noticing on eBay several copies of the Mysterians released in the UK (British Film Institute). I was just wondering if anyone knows if this has the English RKO dub and/or title sequences, or does it contain the same dub that Media Blasters did? Any assistance is appreciated. Thank you.

As far as I know it only has a Japanese lang track with English subs, and no English dub.

This is true, it's just the Japanese track with subtitles. No English track at all. Good release, though.

Thank you both. I'm sure this is excellent news for fans in your region. I am happy you have an opportunity to see/obtain this fine film. I was just hoping it would be offfering the RKO english dub that had not been previously released.

The video transfer looks exactly the same as the Media Blasters and Toho Video DVDs.

Additionally I believe the BFI one came out before the Media Blasters' DVD. Even then I don't know how or if that would work, another company using the dub another has created and still owns the license to the film itself. A more recent case is ADV licensing and dubbing the Heisei Gamera trilogy, and after they lost the rights and Mill Creek picked them up, they were still allowed to use ADV's dubs. So I'm guessing those dubs possibly by default became the property of Kadokawa. Point is, I'm just curious if many years down the road if the Media Blasters' dub will be kept by Toho and be on subsequent releases if another company puts it out.

BFI gave THE MYSTERIANS a few theatrical screenings and a DVD release when they put out GODZILLA. The UK DVD came out after the US DVD from Media Blasters. Ed Godziszewski and I provided some MYSTERIANS stills and advertising materials that BFI included as extras.

Aaron Cooper reviewed BFI's MYSTERIANS DVD, and the review ran a few days after we launched SciFi Japan...
