I was born and raised Catholic, and to this day I still am sort of religious.

However, I have never seen a true reference anywhere within the Bible, especially the New Testament, that flatly outlaws homosexuality. If anything, Jesus was openly affectionate and loving to all of the people he encountered so chances are if he encountered a gay man he wouldn't shun him. We're talking about a guy that, according to scripture atleast, openly associated and forgave lepers and prostitutes. I doubt he would have supported hate or violence to homosexuals. There are laws against it in the millenia old book Leviticus, but it's also accompanied by laws dissuading people from getting tatoos, eating pork, mixing fabric, and numerous other frivolous things that are largely forgotten by today's Church. The laws existed back then as a back up to help keep the Israeli people alive. They were not a populous people, and thus procreating was an important thing. Since then it has been blown out of proportion and atrocities are committed against gay people the world over.

The fact of the matter is people are born gay. Numerous scientific studies have been made that prove that homosexuals have a different brain chemistry than that of a straight person. So if we are to continue to the religious argument, then God made them gay.

The fact of the matter is when it comes to incorporating the discussion of homosexuality into the political rights spectrum religious arguments are no longer valid. There is a separation of Church and State. The Bible should not be used as a political tool. Unlike issues such as the death penalty, one cannot really make a nonreligious argument as for why homosexual marriage is wrong. The question is, how does allowing for gays to get married really even affect a straight couple? If you think about it, it honestly doesn't.

Never gotten why some people are so defensively towards it. Even if you think it's wrong/against your religion, how does the choice of other people have any affect on you? If you think the Bible tells you that gays don't go to heaven, more room for your if you're right. Someone else being attracted to the same sex doesn't hurt your chances.

I say let them marry. To deny people the right to marry is similar to how States use to sterilize people for eugenics programs.

Some churches used to support eugenics wayyy back in the day when that was a law in a number of states. Just another example of why you shouldn't just follow what a lot of churches say the Bible "says".

Even if being gay is purely "choice" (which it isn't), is there really any reason to hate these people?

I've never heard a decent argument as to why homosexuality is wrong. "It's yucky!", "it's different" or "cuz teh bible says so hudurrrr" are the only things I hear, none of which imply any wrongdoing. Now, if there was evidence to suggest that homosexuality directly results in actual bad things like murder, abuse, theft, rape etc, then maybe these homophobes would have a point. But there is no such evidence, so they have no point. They're just hating for hatred's sake.

I don't think anyone here actually has a problem with homosexuality, unless I am mistaken.

Oh, well then yeah, I can agree with that. Some, if not all, homophobes really need to shut up.

Here is what one comedian said.

My buddy said he hates gay people and he ain't no where near gay.
I said, of course you are. He was like, "NO!"
Me: ok, lets test this. When you watch porn and you see a hot girl getting it, do you like half dangling flacid penises ramming her?
Guy: No I like big hard long cock--- Ohhh, I just learned something about myself.

I literally heard a comedian say this, I think the stand-up was called, "They Call Me Tater-Salad"

I know it is a really stupid joke, but he is saying nothing is wrong with gay people, and it can't be "unatural" because we all are a little "gay" inside...

IDK, I found this funny. But I know it was stupid, but it made a point also.
Also how can anything be really "normal" if human beings are the farthest thing from normal. :)

Hrm. Excuse yesterday's behavior. Stress will do that to ya. Having to write a textbook chapter in a day will do that to you.

Anyway...I'm going to sit and be entertained by this. I always find this thing entertaining.

It is a choice each person makes based on the events of one’s life. I agree that a person just doesn’t wake up one day and decide they are gay or straight, or somewhere in the middle. But by the same token I can’t see how a doctor when delivering a new born baby can write on the birth certificate “Sexual Orientation” next to gender, height, weight, and skin color.

The "gay gene" could be found, applied, and patented and you'd still go about believing in your current preset views. Much like evolution, cosmology, geology, etc. you ignore mountains of evidence in favor of a story.

I know about the underlined, but I don't know about the bolded, that I remember of.

Why not join the debate, I originally started this for gay rights and all that, but it somehow got turned into lifestyle vs born that way, and now to right vs wrong.

You can't have a hot topic subject without it going down that route - it's progress.

No, not progress, just part of the process.

I support Gay rights, and my repeating of what I feel would just be repeating what everyone here is already saying.

Still, a lot of the world isn't as progressive as TK. And I've seen plenty of homophobic comments in my life. Hell, in middle school homophobia was the majority opinion. I remember in 6th grade two kids making fun of me because they liked pussy and they said I liked dick. I'm straight, but being gay itself was itself and insult in my middle school. Granted, the redneck culture is pretty large in the area I lived in and dominated the middle school I went to. It's much more diverse now, though.

Oh, and I think the dumbest argument against homosexuality is when people compare homosexuality to pedophilia.

I once heard it compared to beastiality with "When a man skreeonk a man, it's beastiality, because one of them becomes an animal in my book."

Gotta say I'm shocked at how civil and mature most everyone is being in this topic. I would have expected some smart ass to pop in to say "I wish all women were bi so I can get threesomes more easily" as a joke. Anyways, religion says a lot of shit, some of good, a lot of it bad, and some of it nonsense (why can't I shave my mustache again?). I'd rather trust science cause it at least provides proof where as religion you're told to just to believe it's the word of god/aliha/buddiah/ect even though said "rules" were written by human hands.

Plus it's none of my business what goes on in someone elses bedroom, why should it be the governments or the churches?
