Which ones were removed? Where they Rhino releases? That would make a bit of sense as they slowly fade off the shelves.

a little bit of everything I think. There used to be 40+ available to watch instantly, now its down to 20 or so. I know all the Gamera's were taken off because I told a friend about them and i didn't want to let him borrower my DVD's so i told him to watch on Netflix, and they had been taken off. He's still not borrowing my DVD's though  .

Huh. That's odd. Maybe certain movies had an experation date on a streaming clause, or maybe ther wasn't one issued and the rights-oqners took objection to it.

It kinda sucks. There's only three I haven't seen on Netflix now. I wish they had Santa Claus on there still. :| That one is easily one of the best. Along with TISCWSLABMUZ...that's one hell of an abbreviation.

Personally, concerning the Godzilla episodes, the MST3K crew were rather kind in their riffing. In some of the movies from the later seasons they get downright mean; not that I don't find that funny, I do, I'm just saying. They were harsher on the Gamera episodes then the Godzilla ones. I know that Toho doesn't like their movies being made fun of but I'm just saying that compared to other movies, they were nice to the Godzilla movies.
I was mentioned in the SciFi Japan article about the appearence of extras on the Godzilla vs. Megalon DVD.

If Toho didnt want their movies to be made fun of, they shouldnt have made such laughable films. The fact that they're willing to alienate an entire audience (MST3K fans), proves they dont care.

Because it's impossible that the MST crew wrote their own scripts.

The level of "huh?" right now goes to 12.

well imo, they were harsher on the Showa Gamera movies then they were on GvM or GvSM because the godzilla movies are better made in just about every way lol.

but even with how bad they are, the worst Gamera films are world class entertainment compared to Invasion of the Neptune men :dizzy:

On Vol 12 there is an interview with the director of Parts: The Clonus Horror. He said that when he first was told that MST3K was interested, he was upset; for five minutes. That's when he realized that the movie could reach a whole new audience and that he knew it wasn't the world's greatest movie so he let then do it. He said that he still has people come up to him and tell then about seeing on MST3K and loving the episode and some even getting it un-MSTed.

This goes to show that if Toho wasn't so goddamned narrow minded, they could reap the benefits of having their movies released this way. I know that Toho is never going to change their mind or see it this way, but just some food for thought.

Which now begs a bigger question: if they don't like Godzilla being mocked, why do they allow him to be used on shows like Robot Chicken?

^I would say it's because on ROBOT CHICKEN, it's a parody (which is fair use). GODZILLA VS. MEGALON and GODZILLA VS. THE SEA MONSTER are copyrighted movies that are seen in their entirety on the show.

That's pretty much it. Parody is usually a loophole through copyright loops, wheras Megalon and Sea Monster are actual films Toho can claim ownership of.

Shout Factory has breaking down many walls MSTies never thought would crumble, though. They've admitted being afraid of taking on Toho, but I wouldn't be surprised if they tried in the future.

If they do get through with Toho, maybe they'll even get some other titles. Shout Factory released all the Showa Gamera films before they released the MST3K set, so I'm sure they'll be interested.

Got Vol XXIII yesterday, it looks really great. I really liked the menu for Last of the Wild Horses (which I had some effect on, since I brought up the idea to start using non-movie characters on the menus to the guy who makes them).

I just wish I could get my BD-R disc of MST3K: The Thing that Wouldn't Die to play on my laptop. Can anyone help me out with this?

Recently watched the Gamera episodes thanks to that nice big box set they put out and they were pretty good. Some quips really made me laugh. I thought it was cool on one of the special features that August Ragone basically geeks out for a moment on Gamera 3.
