Destroy All Monsters' international dub. I mean seriously the internation dub for DAM is just so freaking bad, its like the voice actors didn't even try to convey great vocal performances and the lines also feel stilted

I think it's the English dub for Godzilla Raids Again

That scene with the dinosaurus was pure shit! Those puppets sucked!

And Godzilla, for whatever reason, didn't even have the correct roar. He had Anguirus's roar.

And they called Godzilla Gigantis

Gigantis the Fire Monster is nothing but pure shit!

While Gigantis might be very MST3K riff worthy but it has some charm in how dumb some of the lines are, I cannot say the same thing for DAM's international dub

Prophecies of Nostradamus and Evil of Dracula both have wretched dub jobs. The bored, disinterested tones, inflections, and lifeless delivery from the actors really hamper the viewing.

Also, any non Titra dub (pretty much any dub from Media Blasters or Sony's releases) are pretty horrendous

Destroy All Monsters (International). A horrendous dub of an already bland film.

The Frontier dub for DESTROY ALL MONSTERS is definitely pretty bad, but for some reason, I find Frontier's dub to SEA MONSTER to be even worse.

I love all of the 70's dubs (Yes, including PROPHECIES OF NOTRADAMUS). I don't care how "shoddy" they are. They're entertaining, and the dubbers actually sound like they're *gasp* having fun! Imagine that!

GIGANTIS is pretty hilarious. I could never hate it.

Honestly, a "What Godzilla dub is your favorite?" would have been far more interesting. I think you had one on the old TK (with a poll option, listing all of the companies that dubbed Godzilla films), which was a lot of fun.

^ Well sorry , but it's not. I think it's a pretty decent thread to discuss the the worst changes made in the English dubs of the Showa films.

We talk about either the strange cuts in the scenes or the terrible word choice in dialoge they put in that either confuse the hell out of you or the ones that just sounds so lame or stuipid etc.

Plus, people love to bitch about things, and this thread gives them a chance to bitch about the bad dubs that pissed or confused them. And you can't really bitch about something in a "What Godzilla dub is your favorite?" thread.

I can't stand all of the awkward pauses that plague the dub. It's eye-twitch worthy. Definitely one of the worst dubs in the Showa. Basically... "I think it stinks!"

Hard to say the WORST; so much of it is awful. There are so many instances in so many Toho films where the dubbed dialogue is very (painfully) obviously just tossed-in with a "who GIVES a F" attitude by whatever distributor.

So many scenes where a given actor/actress is obviously emoting on a certain level, gesturing and delivering line after line of dialogue, only to have their words replaced by "I understand, Captain!" or "Oh-My-God!! NOOOO!!" :?

"This missle will go through Godzilla like crap through a GOOSE!" Ughhhh.

Relax champ. I never said anything was "wrong" with your topic, but I agree with Tamura, that's it's extremely cliche'

I cannot disagree more. For the most part, the voice actors/writers/producers/etc of the English versions had great respect for the source material, especially the special effects sequences (which is why they are rarely cut), and simply adapted the human drama to be more palatable for the then contemporary American public. Sometimes they didn't make decisions that please everyone, but all of that is subjective anyway.

When it comes to the showa Godzilla films, the dub i have trouble with is Destroy All Monsters International Dub. The only thing about it I hate is the voice they gave the white haired American professor. He sounds like a very old man who is really constipated......

I can barely even hear the old guy in the International version. It's like he's got a bad cold and can barely talk. It gets really annoying after the second or so time he opens his mouth.

Oh come on! That raspy "I'm about three seconds from death" voice is awesome! ;)

Worst dub for me goes to Gigantis. Too cartoony, even for the lines that aren't terribly written.

Ah! Banana oil!

The Gigantis cut is super bad too as well. The clip show of the dinosaurs was laughable and Yamane really sounded weird. I can only bring myself to watch it on those strange occurrences when I want to hear George Takei drone on about fisheries.

Just pointing out: George Takai's talent was only confined to smaller roles. The man you're thinking of is Keye Luke.
