I got the impression that he's ONE of the lead characters, though. And it's not as inconsequential as some are saying.
If this guy is going to be a recurring character, we have to sympathize for him. The fact that he is homosexual, and that such a relationship is supposed to be the tragedy here, makes it very difficult for me to sympathize with him.
If we never see this guy again, it won't bother me quite as much. Nevertheless, it is there.

Anyway, the artwork is at least an improvement. It doesn't look GREAT, but it's not BAD either.
I wish they didn't go with Heisei Godzilla, though.

I'm sorry that this bothers you so much, but would the character being gay really make you treat him as a less valid character? That seems a bit extreme.

Could people really get offended at a gay representation within a Godzilla comic? I'm really having a difficult time in seeing this. (I know no one here said it, just looking at what's going on in Kaijusamurai's blog). But maybe that's because I don't see anyone actually caring for a fictional story and its story when there are more important matters in the real world.

And if done incorrectly, gay people too.

Then that's something you either need to deal with, or you'll simply have to avoid the comic. You have the right not to read it. Don't expect a writer to be constrained by your desires, however. I wish a lot of things were different about KoM, but the writers never asked me for my approval before they went to press.

Dammit. REALLY???

Dude, as if there aren't already enough off-putting things about this fandom...If we have to start dealing with homophobia and bigots too, then I think that would finally drive me back into the Godzilla collecting closet. Gay people are a thing. A REAL thing. Get over it. The world is moving toward tolerance, and that's a fact. Get over your self or get crushed in the tide, 'cause the world is changing. Some of the best, kindest people I've ever had the pleasure to know are gay. Just because you've never actually met a gay person, or ever tried to treat/talk to one like they're a human being with all of the rights, pains, and goals you have doesn't mean they don't exist. In ten years time, your statement, even if you don't mean to sound so harsh, will be seen and regarded in the same way as if you had said, "I don't want to see any black or Mexican people in my comic". That's not a place I think you want to put yourself.

End rant, 'cause that was exactly what it was.

Let's get back to discussing things that actually matter about the comic, shall we?

Something I've been noticing is that it's really only one or two people per forum or thread who have, as I've pointed out elsewhere, been offended on the BEHALF of theoretical "others" who might, somewhere in the world, be offended.

It seems less like homophobia, and more like just...well, the internet ;)

Godzilla fans are a lot more tolerant than one might think. I'm more amazed at watching this minority getting shouted down by the majority.

Just read the preview it looks already better then KOM and the art is amazing.
one thing I liked about legends 2 is the art and in this preview you can see how good Simon Gane really is.
honestly the worst part about legends 2 was the story
And KoM had a okay story but the art was just ugly Although some shots where good at times.

oh and also''Godzilla takes place several years after KoM''
and ''The Monsters are rising once again.""
So it kinda is a sequel to KOM i suppose

Yes, because one person = many people.

Personally, I find it pretty neat. It gives it a "real world" feeling.

^Don't even bother, man. You can't knock any sense into a mind that's already set that way.

I'm excited for this new series. I pretty much skipped KOM (though will buy/read the TPBs simply to support the franchise), but if this one is good enough I might start picking up single issues again. We'll see how it goes, gonna keep my expectations low just in case.. :)

Here's the thing. If Urv's ONLY character trait is that he's gay, then I oppose his inclusion based on hackneyed writing. But if he's a three dimensional character who happens to be gay, then I applaud the versatility and progression of this franchise. Regardless, the fate of his wedding is a neat hook.

Can we get off the gay topic here? It was actually very unimportant to the first five pages there. I imagine it won't be a main plot point for the series, either.

Things I noticed:

•Rodan is the Showa version. Cool! Wasn't really a fan of the um.... Trendmasters Rodan of the last series.
•The art is great! Simplistic and yet you actually knoew what's going on. That last page with Goji was fantastic.
•Sequel to KOM. That's fine.
•the character was GAY! Did you see that??? GAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!
That's it so far. Can't wait to watch the Mercs tangle with the kaiju.

Yeah, overall, this series could be a flaming piece of shit, but so long as the art is consistent with what we've seen, it'll still be more worthy of my 4 bucks than KoM.
