The other issue is that apes didn't exist in the Americas until our human ancestors came over. There's absolutely no way a rogue group "devolved" (I use the term loosely) into 'squatches. There's no fossil or archeological evidence anywhere that suggests 'squatches migrated from Asia, and there's no way a tiny population of a large mammal would have persisted for tens of thousands of years, let alone undetected.

Wouldn't it be cool if in Africa, atleast until recently, there was a little Lost World of sorts and all those creatures were real?

Stuff like that used to fascinate me as a kid.

Some people think since the Congo is so huge that it could be why that there is no fossil evidence has been found, but I still don't believe how those dinosaurs could have live over 65 million years undetected. I know that the Mokele Mbembe has been reported since the 1700's but I don't see how no one could have seen something like a Barosaurus if a animal like that is so huge?

A giant spider can't exist anymore due to lack of oxygen and gravity. But we know the surface of the moon better then the ocean floor. I've always had a weird irrational fear of being on a cruise ship and its sunk by a previously unknown giant ocean monster, hence why I never go on cruises.

I dont know wether i'd freak out if I saw that or amazed. On the plus side its like a giant hermit crab, which are relativly harmless. On the downside, its skreeonk huge.

Now that I think of it, is it possible for a giant sea creature to exist? Im not saying kaiju sized things, but 100+ feet. No, whales dont count. Recently I've been reading The Search for the Giant Squid, and an interesting tidbit of information came up regarding Peter Benchly's The Beast, where some of the events in the film where inspired by a series of unexplained fishing accidents in Bermuda during the 1980s:

"As reported by Richard Greenwell in the "International Society of Cryptozoology Newsletter", Bermudian fisherman John P. [Sean] Ingham was having a lot of trouble with his traps in the mid-1980s.

A deepwater crab and shrimp fisherman, Mr. Ingham's traps were regularly lowered to depths of between 1,000 and 2,000 fathoms. And these specially reinforced traps were coming back up bent and twisted — in some cases, not coming up at all.
On September 3, 1984, Mr. Ingham was winching up a trap that had been on the bottom at 500 fathoms. About halfway up, the line broke.

It would take a weight of over 600 pounds to break the line, which was polyethelyne rope.

Dr. Bennie Rohr, a biologist with the National Marine Fisheries Service Southeast Laboratory at Pascagoula, Mississippi, suggested that it might be the work of a giant octopus, since a full cage of tasty shrimp or crabs would be the perfect bait for it.

On another occasion, when a smaller trap was being hauled up from 480 fathoms, the trap seemed rooted to the bottom as if something very heavy was holding it, and the line, with a 4,500-pound breaking strain, was beginning to give.

As if to prove that the trap was not snagged on the bottom, whatever was holding it began to pull the 50-foot boat. When Mr. Ingham put his hand on the line, he felt "thumps like something was walking.""

For those of you who are unfamiliar with The Beast, both the film and the novel are about a 100ft Giant Squid that devours swimmers near a fishing town in Washington State.

The abyssal zone is just about the only place I could see a large-scale unknown species existing. The sheer immensity of the ocean, coupled with the relatively small areas that humans may chance to occupy at a given moment, is practically a guarantee that we know only the slightest fraction of what is down there.

Too bad I'm allergic to crab.
On another note...didn't Monsterquest conclude in one of their episodes that they recorded footage of a 50-100 foot squid off California?

^I'll take THREE of these, please, along with two lbs. of butter, a bulb or two of garlic, a dozen lemons, and some fresh dill....

When those X-Men/Matrix guys were destroying Ebirah in the Final Wars film, I could actually smell the grilling/searing fresh crab aroma in the air. I cant even fathom chunks of fresh lump crab the size of car tires...ohboyohboyohboyohboy... I hope they had a giant BUFFET after the battle!

And I agree about the 'Abyssal Zone'. The blackest depths hold who-KNOWS-what. Stories and pictures of sea serpents and leviathans are what sparked my early interest in kaiju. 'Sea monster' films are among my favorites, and I used to glare at the pictures in those older Time Life books....the bearded snakes, the saiors' stories of sea titans, etc...
Even the recent 'Cloverfield' film turned me on. I love the premise that the 'monster' is really a terrified infant that was woken/disturbed by deep-sea exploitation activities. Reminded me of a Toho/Harryhausen storyline. (The whole Japanese whaling/oceanic mega-corp sub-plot, the 'Slusho' ad, etc...its fairly obvious, IMHO.)
