What prove do you have that Toho doesn't do skins? I remember reading that the other Pipeworks games never had skins because the game engine was unable to support skins.

It's in the interviews with Simon Strange regrading the Atari Godzilla games.

Was there ever a good reason why Toho don't like skins or alternative costumes?

I might be way off here, but I was under the impression that Toho is fine with "skins," but they want developers to pay for the rights to each skin as if it's a separate monster. This is financially impossible for a small studio like Pipeworks. So rather than blow their budget on getting the rights to different versions of each monster, Pipeworks opted for fewer versions of a bunch of monsters.

Toho is crazy, they want someone to pay extra money for different looks of a kaiju?

Yeah, that's my understanding of it. For example, Toho considers Rodan, Fire Rodan and FW Rodan three separate characters, so a game developer would have to pay for the rights to each version of the monster. It's basically why we'll never see "skins" in a game. Unless the next Godzilla game is being handled by a gigantic developer like Capcom or Nintendo or somebody... which is doubtful.

Where's the option for "Legendary Pictures Godzilla"? Because if we do get a new video game, it probably won't be until that film is released and odds favor it being based exclusively on the movie, with NO outside Toho monsters or alternate Godzilla skins or whatever.

Pipeworks wasn't picking up the tab, Atari was.

Toho puts the monsters into groups. Say if they want Godzilla, all Godzilla's are included except Burning Godzilla (although it looks like they got away with it by having the Critical Mass bit). All King Ghidorah's are included but Mecha King Ghidorah is separate. You get the idea.

Oh, that's a lot better than what I assumed! So to fix my above example, Atari could buy all the versions of plain ol' Rodan in one go, but Fire Rodan would have been a separate purchase. Which explains why we got three different playable Godzillas in G:U. Thanks for clarifying Chris.

So we can have several Godzillas?

Yes, I can see it now. "Godzilla: Attack of the Godzillas. It's about a crap load of Godzillas doing what makes Godzilla... Godzilla"

For Future Godzilla Games I would go for the these versions.
1. 1954 (The original,of course)
2. 1964 (Mothra vs. Godzilla
3.1968 (Destroy All Monsters)
4.1984 (Return of Godzilla)
5.1993 (Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla 2)
6.1995 (Godzilla vs. Destoroyah)
7.2001 (Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack)
8.2003 (Godzilla, Mothra, Mechagodzilla: Tokyo SOS)
9.2004 (Godzilla Final Wars)

Personally I'd like to see the GFW or Tokyo S.O.S Godzillas, maybe a hybrid.

Does anyone know whether or not there will be a new Godzilla game, like if theres any upcoming projects, any plans?

I haven't heard anything official. There's a cool fan-game in the works though.

I can't imagine we'll see any kind of official licensed game until LP's Godzilla gets off the ground, and even then it's a maybe.

GFW Godzilla, a streamlined fighting machine with the quintessential features of Showa, Heisei and Millennium.

I'm gonna have to go with GFW Godzilla as well. So I choose other.

I've read it, but I'm still gonna go with GFW Godzilla on this one.
Godzilla 70's already has some strong form of support behind him, even Chris is there. With that in mind, Godzilla 70's has a decently high chance of making it. So while your trying to pull your own choice through I want to do the same for my own.

Mmm..I'll go with Godzilla GFW as well. So I pick other, although I have to admit, Godzilla 64 was gravely tempting. But a more up to date incarnation is what I'm mostly interested in. Godzilla 2000 is cool and all, but a new mascot is much more preferable to me.
