Gandalf, Saruman and the other three wizards were sent to Middle-Earth to rally resistance against Sauron. They went in the guise of old men and weren't supposed to show their power unless there was dire need.

so this means that we don't know Gandalf's true power? That makes this fight moot then, unless we have an inkling of what he can do 0.o
