Beam Lock/Clash

Postby Living Corpse » Sun Mar 25, 2012 10:07 am

Something that happened very rarely in these films.

In Son of Godzilla Kumonga and Godzilla had one. Though technically not a beam the spider's web proved to be a surprising counter block to Godzilla heat ray and often ended in a stalemate. The next one would be the first true beam lock in Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (1974) where the Eye Laser proved to be equal in power to Godzilla's Heat Ray and exploded after a few seconds in yet another stalemate. Then we got it again in Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (1993) where the Megabuster proved to have more force then the normal Atomic Ray but had less push then the Red Spiral Ray. Finally we got two more in GFW, where Monster X's rays and Godzilla ended in a stalemate but Kaizer Ghidorah's proved the winner in it's clash.

My opinion: I like them. If they happened all the time it'd be boring and we'd all be like "we've seen this million times before" but they happen rarely and I think that makes them cooler because they happen rarely. We don't expect them so when they do happen it's like "oh cool we haven't seen a Clash in a while".

So what do you guys think about Beam Clashes? Cool, stupid, meh? Are you glade they are rare or would you want them to be more often?

I would like beam locks to be a little more common. They're fun to watch, but only the FW ones. I prefer the beams struggling to slam the other down it's blaster's throat. It really shows how powerful the beam is (like Godzilla's atomic breath Ozaki-fied tearing through the Telekinetic Gravity Beams.

The explosion-ended beamfights aren't as enjoyable because you don't know it did anything until the monster who lost reacts accordingly.

I want to see Godzilla beam duel with King Ghidorah, and then their beams interlock and struggle for a few minutes untile Godzilla's overcomes Ghidorah's. Then, suddenly Godzilla sees images of his dead parents that tell him he must get to the Port Key and take Anguirus's dead body back to his father.

I find it difficult to believe that two animals would get sucked into a who has the strongest beam contest and wouldn't just fire it in a different direction when the one they're firing it in doesn't work.

Just call it what it is: A Kaiju Pissing Contest.

They could be cool, but I'm fine with them happening as rarely as they do.

I have to agree with this. Makes them more unique and exciting.

I prefer them be rare. They can be visually interesting, like the clash between Godzilla and MG in 74. The beam clashes, though, should be regarded as a treat when seeing two equal foes are in combat.

Yeah, but humans are the only animal that have pissing contests. That's what makes it weird.

^ They're GIANT MONSTERS, for crying out loud. They're pretty weird to start with..

What are you talking about? My town was trashed by a giant wombat last week. Are you saying this doesn't happen everywhere?

I wouldnt mind seeing a couple more but not too many. I agree ones that end in explosions arent so good.

Leave the beam struggles to DBZ, where it belongs...

It's cool by me when they lock heat rays and it creates a giant explosion, but not when its a beam battle. Thats just lame.
