The books are very good, in my opinion.

Author Suzanne Collins has stated that the final film gives a faithful and effective adaptation of the book, so I have high hopes.

Call me a purist for saying this, but I kinda wish this was R-rated. Being true to the violence like the book. But that would kinda suck from a marketing standpoint.

I can always hope for a director's cut.

^ Reviews I've seen mention that the film seems to push the PG-13 rating. I also heard that one scene was edited out.

Yeah, I read the Pendragon books. Was a while back, but I remember liking them pretty well. Favorite was the one with the jungle planet, the cat-people, and the dino-lizard-things.

I'm just annoyed at the whole OMG HUNGER GAMES IS TEH RIP OFF OF BATTLE ROYAL, when the motif of child against child is hardly new. It's like saying Prometheus is a rip off of Stargate SG-1 because both feature a ship called Prometheus, or that The Hunger Games is a rip off of Harry Potter because both books were written by women.

Uhm...no. No its not. Not at all. Two plots being the same is a lot different than accusing James Cameron of plagiarism by naming his planet "Pandora", like Borderlands did, or your other examples.

Have you actually compared the two source materials? They are REMARKABLY similar, to the point where Koushun Takami was advised to sue for plagiarism/royalties. He never did, but still. The similarities are excruciatingly obvious.

Going to have to agree with SD here. I hear it's VERY similar, but the author of Hunger Games claims they never heard of Battle Royale.

Which as anyone in this situation would claim. It's bullshit. Of course she would deny it, because if she was aware of it, it would have proven she ripped it off. It's a humorous scenario. I honestly don't care that she ripped it off, as long as the movie is decent. Shit, for all I know it could be better. Plagiarized works have been known to sometimes be better than the source material.

I've honestly never heard much of Battle Royale either, and I doubt much of The Hunger Games's audience has heard of it either. I can let the author get away with this one.

As for the book/film, I read the book for the first time around Christmas last year after seemingly my entire group of friends and my mother read through them in like the course of a week. It was entertaining and decently written and for a young adult novel about teenagers murdering one another it actually was pretty good.

The film, like many who attempt to follow a book's plot rather closely, struggles with some of the minor details and exposition and because of that a few relationships feel more hollow than they should, however, they nail the dystopia aspect. The set design and costume design do a brilliant job at conveying the messed up world the series takes place in. I also thought the score and cinematography were pretty good too. Jennifer Lawrence pretty much kicked ass as well. I'd recommend it.

I'm exaggerating quite a bit. But these fan boy knee-jerk cries of plagiarism are a bit much. Thankfully, plot threads aren't the only elements of a story.

She may have, may not have heard of Battle Royale. What counts in the end is storytelling.

I've just started reading the Hunger Games. So far the damn thing is a chore. Battle Royale, on the other hand, gripped me from its early pages on with its characters. But this...words cannot describe just how little I care.

The reviews for the movie have been saying that the movie is pretty good. I'm not sure if I should I see it or not since I never read the book and my inner film snob inside me is telling me that I'm better off sticking with The Running Man. It seem like Stephen King did everything better nearly 25 years ago.

Battle Royale> The Hunger Games. It's funny how the much better film got an official American release on Tuesday.

I want to go see the hunger games out of curiosity. I enjoyed the Battle Royale movie even though the novel is better.
I still want to read the battle royale novel and maybe hunger games too.

Seek out Battle Royale. It's quite possibly the fastest 600 pages I've ever read.

The Hunger Games though, ugh. I can't bring myself to continue.

Saw the film last night. Twas excellent, but took until the games begun for the movie to finally live up to the hype. Still, definitely worth the money.

What about The Running Man (1987)? It seems like The Hunger Games has a similar to plot to it? I'm sure The Hunger Games will be better then Gamer (Another movie from a couple years ago with a similar plot), but the movie still looks dull to me.

I was just saying Battle Royale is a superior film with a similar plot.
