Yeah, I never did understand why they kept referring to him as a cyborg. Mechagodzilla's a machine in both Showa, and Heisei film, the millennium films maybe since he contains the bones and DNA of the original Godzilla inside him.

I think they where refering to the fact that Mechagodzilla was covered in (what appeared to be) living tissue.

The 800 series Terminators are also called Cyborgs for this reason. Living tissue mixed with mechanical components.

"Cyborg" is thrown around pretty loosely in older science-fiction. He may be using "cyborg" in reference to how it's a machine emulating a living creature. However, Mechagodzilla Mk. II does share a brain with an actual cyborg.

I think what is more interesting is Showa Mechagodzilla's A.I. The Simians don't control him like a mech; they give him orders and he carries them out whatever way he feels like doing. Only in emergency situations did they take direct control.

Speaking of Terminators and Mechagodzilla, everytime I see Kiryu collapse his hand into a drill I'm reminded of the T-1000 turning his hands into weapons.
