Best Ending

What Godzilla film do you think has the best ending?

For me, I'm going to say Son Of Godzilla. It is by far the most emotional moment I've ever seen that involves guys in rubber suits. The fact that this film can make these great emotional scenes involving people in suits shows just how great this film really is. I will also say that, there are only two films that make me cry every single time: It's A Wonderful Life and Son Of Godzilla, both with their endings.

To me, an incredibly happy ending, like Son Of Godzilla's ending, is much more powerful and emotional than a sad and kinda depressing ending, like Godzilla vs. Destoroyah or Godzilla's ending. Yeah, those moments are great, but they really don't force much an emotion out of me, other than, "Aww, well that sucks." I get emotionally invested in Minya, and really want to see Godzilla step up from mentor to father, and that ending brings everything together in a nice little package. The last hour and a half had been building up to that moment, and it paid off better than I thought it would have. To me, it is the best ending I've ever seen in a monster film.

"Son" is good for the reasons you've stated

Destroy All Monsters has a good finale, with the helicopter flying over Monster Island and seeing each of the monsters, ending with Godzilla and son standing together.

Maybe "Ghidorah" too, with Godzilla and Rodan looking on as Mothra swims away back to Infant island, although that's a quick scene.

ToMG comes to mind, with Showa Godzilla wading back out to sea for the final time. A very nicely done scene, I've always thought.

GMK is another contender. The human characters have their dramatic ending, saluting their fallen comrades and the Guardian Monsters. They're sure they've won, that Godzilla won't be coming back... and then we see the beating heart...

And G2K. I've always loved that final shot of him spinning around to torch the surrounding buildings, while the Rodan theme plays in the background, before it fades out to the credits and The Godzilla March. Cool stuff.

Return of Godzilla had the most emotionally powerful ending for me as a child. Godzilla vs Destroyah made me feel really bad, but never once made me cry.

The ending to GMK is also my favorite ending, it shows that you cannot ever kill Godzilla.

I agree that Son of Godzilla has a great ending, but another one worthy of mention would be Invasion of Astro-Monster, for a it's very dramatic resolution.

The original carries my favorite ending. Perfect blend of triumph and tragedy to grant a richer-than-average emotional payoff to the film.

Another ending I absolutely love (though not at the same level) is that of Tokyo SOS. There is just something incredibly poignant for me about Kiryu's farewell to Yoshito, and then its final plunge into the depths with its mate/child/whatever. It brings a real sense of closure to the story of Godzilla's rage against humanity, and seems to promise that, this time at least, they really will rest in peace.

Gojira's ending, for it's crushing hopelessness. Just perfect.

Son of Godzilla's, for reasons already stated.

Terror's ending, cause it still gives you such a melancholy feeling, like you're saying goodbye to a friend.

G2K's for it's somber, and almost reflective ending.

Terror of Mechagodzilla. It gives a nice, simple, yet dramatic ending to the Showa era.

GMK's ending with the beating heart was dramatic.

I always really liked the ending of Tokyo SOS. The 'sayonara Yoshito' part is one of my personal favorite scenes in all of Godzilla.

Ghidorah's ending with the two monsters watching Mothra go back to Infant Island is always great.

Those are the main ones, with Godzilla vs. Destoroyah and Final Wars. A nice finisher with G and Minya heading out to sea with Godzilla roaring at the camera.

Son of, vs. Destoroyah, and GMK all have great endings.

Gotta agree with this.

For some reason, I'm a fan of G2000's ending for just how ridiculous it is.

Godzilla 1985 when Godzilla fell into Mt. Mihara, it was very sad to see this mighty creature who killed god knows how many people, destroyed the military, wiped out a city of millions fall to his death (which is how I viewed it as a kid) inside a volcano and my god that death scream really just got me by the heart strings

Godzilla's Revenge. Because it ended. For a while, I was afraid it wouldn't.

Son of Godzilla: There's nothing more touching in the series than seeing Godzilla holding his son as the blizzard buries them. The ending in this has to be one of the greatest Godzilla movies have to offer.

Terror of Mechagodzilla: The ending not only resolves a well-built arc of events, but also is a great adieu for the Showa series as a whole.

Godzilla: In a way, I really liked how it didn't end with a innumerable amount of explosions or destruction. The emotions conveyed by the cast and Serizawa as he unleashes the Oxygen Destroyer is as good if not more satisfying than the traditional "Grand Finale".

Godzilla Final Wars: Granted, the movie wasn't the greatest, but I found the traditional walk off into the ocean and peaceful resolution between the humans/mutants and Godzilla pleasing.

Actually, I felt TOM was rather unsatisfying for a finale to the series.

I will agree with a lot and say Son of Godzilla, I just loved the vibe it gave off as Godzilla and Minya huddled up together, struck a chord

I also loved GMK's, SOS's, GvD and G2K's endings

I'd have to say that G vs Megalon has a good ending. You have to love that JJ song.

GMK is up there as well. That beating heart just shows the immortality of Godzilla.

The best, to me, is the ending of G vs Destroyah. I like that look the psychic gets on her face, and then slowly seeing the shape of a new Godzilla in the mist.

YAHMMMAAHOAAHOAAAUGH !

Couldn't resist

on topic tho, i gotta say that my favorite endings are... Gojira: it's a melancoly ending, but it's got a ton of symbolism to it (as did the whole movie) and bears a warning for the future

GMK: just when you thought it was over for good, you see the heart. A good reveal that in and of itself makes me wish kaneko had been given total control of the movie.

Destory all Monsters: because despite the double action climax, (with the second one feeling forced and out of place) seeing all the monsters on the island ending with Godzilla and Minya felt like the right way to end the series.

Honorable mentions go to Godzilla vs Biollante, Godzilla vs King Ghidorah, G'85, King Kong vs Godzilla, and Mothra vs Godzilla

Destroy All Monsters doesn't do it for me because of one little thing: The Fire Dragon. I can't see a good reason for it even to be in the movie. Think. The Kilaak base was already destroyed, and we saw the Kilaakians devolve into their metallic form, so why give a Kilaakian saucer, which hasn't until then possessed this quality, the ability to be covered in fire? It baffles me, to be honest.

To me, it's only purpose is so the SY3 crew can show off what heroes they are. Can't have the monsters stealing their thunder.
