Ok here we go, Van Halen is such a classic band. I like all their stuff, both Roth and Hagar. They are a great classic band. Eddies legacy will never be matched! Thoughts?

Not a bad song, but I'd highly recommend listening to some more of them

I'm Unchained!(I'm sorry for that).

On topic, they're a little too sensual for my tastes, but I've got good stuff of theirs. They KNEW how to play guitar!

Back in the early 80's, I was the biggest Van Halen fan. Loved Eddie! 1984 was a huge hit for the band. I was pissed when Roth left.
But, looking back at it, Roth leaving was the best thing for the band. Roth had limited success on his own, and made a couple good albums with Steve Vai & Billy Sheehan.
I was skeptical of Sammy Hagar at first. I thought the band needed another flamboyant lead singer. But, after hearing 5150 and seeing the band live in 1986, it didn't take me long to accept Sammy into the band. Hagar is a great solo artist, and he added another element to the band with his song writing, guitar playing and solo hits. The fundamentals of song writing were stronger with Hagar in the band. With Hagar in the band, they actually sold more albums, then they did with Roth in the band!

When Roth left, I was Pro-Van Halen. But, when Hagar & Anthony were forced out of the band, I went with them.
IMO, Eddie & Alex are a bunch of A-holes. I love their music, but they screwed themselves and the fans. They haven't done anything new in years.
Hagar on the other hand, continues to tour and write new music - both solo AND Chickenfoot.

A couple years ago, I went to see Hagar. Mike Anthony opened up for him. They played a bunch of old Van Halen/Roth tunes. Mike did all the vocals.
Later, when Sammy was on stage, Mike Anthony came out and played on the Van Hagar part of the set. Great Show!

Ah, delightful thread at last I have found thee! :P

I love Van Halen. At least before Hagar. I was never much of a fan of him. I saw these guys in concert in Louisville, and they were magnificent. Anyone have any thoughts on the new "A Different Kind of Truth" album?

And my favorite songs are Cathedral, (Oh) Pretty Woman, Unchained, and Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love.

I haven't heard the entire album yet, but from what I have heard it's like between "Van Halen II" and "Fair Warning".

As much as I love Sammy Hagar, I just never liked the stuff he did with Van Halen. To me, David Lee Roth will always be THE singer for Van Halen. I've yet to hear the new album, unfortunately, though it apparently was pretty good, regardless if some of the songs we're recycled.

From what I heard at the concert, Tattoo, China Town, and Blood & Fire (I think that's what it's called) are my favorite three, though I heard the iTunes clip of Big River and I can almost guarantee I'll buy it.
