why is Yongary so disliked

I know why I dislike Yongary so much (Heisei only, never seen Showa). One line in that movie.

"Compared to this guy, Godzilla is a pussy."

The movie itself is awful. Just skreeonk awful. But that line just gave it that little shove it needed to go into the trash heap.

That line didn't kill it for me it actually made me laugh.

I find the old Yongary movie to be a bit boring, to be honest. I had a hard time sitting through the whole thing. Also, it features (IMO) the most annoying kid in a kaiju film that I have ever seen! The 1999 movie is more entertaining, but suffered horribly due to the terrible CGI. Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus had better effects for crying out loud! I think I would like that movie a lot better if they had just stuck with a guy in a suit.

As for the monsters themselves, they are, like Godzilla and Zilla, completely different creatures. I don't mind Yongary, although the suit's quality and fire breath effects had a lot to be desired. His horn laser is probably my favorite aspect of him. He reminds me of a mobster you would se in a Showa Gamera movie, glowing eyes and all. (Just about every Showa Gamera monster, Gamera, Barugon, Gyaos, Virus, Zigra, and Jiger had glowing eyes).

Reptilian, as I like to call him, remindes me of a lizard version of Heisei Gamera, that doesn't fly. He's okay, but his CGI model is horrible. Absolutely horrible.

I love the original Yongary, both movie and monster. He was one of my first non-Toho kaiju. His dancing is still among my most iconic kaiju moments.

Yonggary/Reptilian is quite possibly an even worse remake than Godzilla '98, if such a thing is possible. At least there were one or two things in Godzilla that recalled or referenced the Toho beast. What did Reptilian have, other than the name?

Hey at least the new Yongary shot fire and did monstery type things.

But I still have to do with the original because of his mad dance skills.

Both films are god-aweful, but the 1999 one more than the other. Im amazed I'm able to sit through that garbage pile of a film every time.

The original is pretty mediocre; I like Yongary's design, but that's it. The film doesn't really present anything new or interesting for kaiju fans.

Reptillian, on the other hand, is just plain bad.

The original sucked but does enjoy a small cult following. The remake was so bad it was fun IMO. But Yongary has potential I say. It just needs a new movie.

The film isn't great, but I have my DVD copy for completion sake, also Its on Netflix instant streaming for anyone who hasn't seen it. Also I saw an interview years ago with Tim Burton where he referrenced Yongary (instead of Godzilla??) where he said that it was the film that made him realize it was unsafe to live in Japan. (*This may be an extra on the Mars Attacks! Blu-Ray, but I may be mistaken) I wonder how many fans called him out for being ignorant of the films country of origin.

Am I the only one that LIKED Reptilian?

It was a bad movie, yeah. But I enjoyed it.

Nope. I even prefer it over the 1967 film. (Oh yes, I totally went there. Hate on, haters.)

I only have watched the 1999 version. it was bad but i enjoyed a little bit.

I can't skreeonk stand Reptilian. I can't get any humor out of that cringe-fest. And then there's the fact that it has the worst skreeonk motivational speech in history. Protip: If you wanna inspire confidence in your men, you do not say that your opponent makes Godzilla look like a wimp! Good skreeonk lord, what would posess you to say that?!

That'd be like me trying to relax a gator wrestler who's about to wrestle skreeonk Gustave by saying that Gustave is not only skreeonk bulletproof but also hunts and kills adult hippos. YOU DON'T DO THAT!

^This. I actually kinda liked Reptilian, but yeah the film is bad. I haven't seen Yongary so far, but I'm quite sure it's better than Reptilian.

i actually watched yongary the other night on netflix on a whim. pretty bad flick and totally forgettable. the monster did remind me of a garmera creature the way it was designed and had the flame thrower bit completely visible in his mouth.

haven't seen reptilian. don't think i will either.

My advice is don't see Reptilian, unless you're in the mood for something campy.
