Toy Photo Requests

Postby Cimmerian Dragon » Wed Mar 14, 2012 6:40 am

Pretty simple idea here (inspired by Rody, and granted the blessing of Holy Arbok).

We all know that there are tons of figures out there for which one cannot find decent, thorough photographs. As good a resource as Club Tokyo and the like are, many of their photos are far too low-res (or just poorly shot) to give collectors a real sense of what a toy looks like before they go trying to buy one. So, if anyone would like someone to post photos of a particular toy from their collection, ask here, and hopefully your fellow TKers will oblige. If you're not sure if anyone here has the figure, ask anyway, and see if someone raises their hand.

Edit: Leunames asked about owners just posting shots of a figure without it specifically being requested. Here are my thoughts on that, as well as some general guidelines to get us started in the right direction:

1. Photos, whether specifically requested or not, should all be composed with the primary goal of being detailed reference material for viewers who are also potential buyers.

2. Unless otherwise requested, photos of the figure from front/rear/profile/three-quarter angles ought to be considered the standard format.

3. Size comparisons are welcome and encouraged. Stand a ruler next to the figure, or place it alongside a Bandai 8" or 6", that sort of thing.

4. Don't bother posting a shot of 50 figures lined up on a shelf, unless it's to illustrate some point. Otherwise, that stuff can stay in the "Display Your Collection" thread.

5. Unless it is specifically requested, don't bother posting photos of generally common or well-known items. For example, I love Bandai vinyl figures, but there is no reason for me to post shots of every one that they ever produced. However, if someone does request photos of such figures, please do not hesitate to oblige. Rule #5 is merely intended to keep the thread from exploding with less-useful posts, not as part of some fascist power-trip.

Okay...let's give it a whirl.

Dammit, ya beat me to it!

I'm going to shanghai my girlfriend's camera this weekend and take a few comparison shots of my Revoltech Legion, finally. I'll compare it to the MonsterArts, Bandai vinyls, and other Revoltechs.

Just to clarify, is the purpose of this thread for board members to request pics of items that other board members may have, or is it for board members to just post pics in general?

I have a request.

I would like to see a size comparison between the SH Monsterarts Godzilla and the Bandai Creation Final Wars G.

Honestly, I personally couldn't care less whether someone requests a shot, or if the owner just chooses to post detailed, multi-angle pics of one of their toys for future reference. Either way, the thread is fulfilling it's purpose.

If you post pictures of a figure, just be sure that those photos still be composed with the intent to inform the viewer, and not in the way that they might be photographed for a "Display your collection" post.

Also, unless it is specifically requested, I think we ought to refrain from dozens of shots of, say, basic Bandai vinyls. Most collectors are familiar enough with those lines to render such entries redundant. Like I said, though, if someone asks for that, by all means oblige.

For those posting pictures of more well-know toys, I think GreenAiden555's idea is a great example of how to make such posts useful.

Id like some pics of Bandai Japan standard G84 vinyl.

Front body, side body, front head close-up, side head close-up.

If someone could help, that'd be the tops.

I'd like to see some size comparisons between the Bandai Museum '62 Godzilla and the Bandai Creations GMK Godzilla.

Or just good pictures of how big exactly the BM '62 Godzilla is, really.

I know this is already breaking the established rules, but this is for the sake of size comparison. Also, it's really the only good pic I can find in my stuff that shows it next to some common figures. The BM is on the far left and on the right side are various Bandai 6 inchers. Hopefully it helps give you an idea of its size; it's pretty hefty.

He's a bit of a brute! I've been on the look out for one of those, just haven't been sure of the size and if it's worth the $150 price tag that I found it for.

^I love it, but I dunno about $150 love it. Having said that, I snagged mine for around $70, so I gotta cop to getting it for a good deal. Around $100 and I'd still get it, but $150 would be too much for me...there's Marmit's in them thar hills, as they say...

I'm going to have to buy it one day. It's my favorite Showa suit and just looks like a fantastic figure. Thanks for the pic! I want your Titanosaurus, too. ;]

Okay, I have a request. I'd like to see various standard/large scale Biollante figures including the Bandai, Marmit standard, giant Marmit, M1, and any others people might have. I'm sorely needing one in my collection, and I think I want the Marmit standard if I can find one for a fair price, but maybe I should be open to other companies.

Nope, it's not breaking the rules BECAUSE it is for a size comparison. :D

4. Don't bother posting a shot of 50 figures lined up on a shelf, unless it's to illustrate some point.

It makes sense to use this kind of shot in this case, and it has illustrated the point quite well.

I would like to see a comparison of the MonstartArts MechaGodzilla II with BOTH the Bandai Creation and Bandai Japan vinyl figures. At the same time, please, if possible.

Not the best pics, but of the 4 you mentioned here are 2, the Marmit Monster Heaven standard and the Bandai. Obviously the huge one is X-Plus. There's also a bandai memorial box Godzilla 55 (6") for size reference.

The Giant Marmit is considerably larger than the standard...not as big as the X-Plus.

^Beautiful stuff there! Thank you. As incredible as the X-Plus is, I still feel like the standard Marmit (albeit the other color version) suits my tastes best. If anyone has the M1 to compare to any others I'd appreciate it as well. :]
