I was fortunate enough to be a geek...who had the temper and fists of a bully. When people would bust my chops about the Big G (or Star Trek, or my love of science and history lessons) I would clock them in the teeth. It got me sent to the principal's office a few times, but you know what? After a couple of bullys got a wallop from me, they and my other classmates just stopped picking on me. I even ended up pals with one of the bullys.

Granted, this was elementary school, and the consequences were very light. It wouldn't work in High School (I'd just get my ass sued or charged with assault) but I do think that being assertive is damn important, regardless of one's age.

This,soooo much,minus the Star Trek.Elementary school was no problem,but middle school?Add in the strength of a Varsity Wrestler and a few years of martial arts,and we weren't much different in our experiences,Cimmy. I was the pariah of the school,few friends and the target of so many jokes,pranks,and long-distance attacks(rubber-band-shot thumbtacks,rocks...).i think the one flaw i had is either i dont have much of mean-side,or i control that bastard so good that when i lose it,i black out.eventually i said "skreeonk it" and beat the shit out of everyone who messed with me.sadly my prinicpal was a racist bitch who knew the situation but didnt do anything about it so i got shafted in the punishments despite self-defense.Last kid to start shit with me got tossed through her door on graduation.and with that,i left that school with a bang,and newfound respect from my peers.

No, this isn't one of those "friendzoned" stories. Okay, well, kinda.

She's such a bitch. She's the most negative person I've ever met, and it's like every little thing I do is just awful and blah blah blah... Then, a few minutes later, she'll turn around and be all nice to me like we've always been best friends. She pretty obviously has a massive crush on me, too. She's never been the most subtle person.

I just wish she'd leave me alone. I never thought the Tsundere trope was a real thing.

Now before I start, I love that people are becoming aware of this. A terrible man like this should be known about by millions of people. Know why it gets on my nerves though? These are things people shouldn't need facebook to learn about. I guarantee the average young-adult would literally have no idea what the significance behind something like the mere mention of Rwanda should mean to them. It angers me so damn much to know that my generation cares more about the shitfest that is reality TV than world events. Watching crap like Jersey Shore makes me embarrassed to be the same species as those people. Yet, somehow, America cares more about what happens to those idiots rather than the millions of people suffering from genocide, civil war, war crimes, etc in other countries through out the years. It disgusts me.

GojiFan, I'm right there with you. Ever since I was in middle-school and I would hear about genocides and other atrocities, I wondered why nobody cared. The answer I almost always received was "It's not our problem." Among the people I got that reply from were not just strangers, but friends and family. For a while, in high school, I took on that attitude myself until I took up an interest in History and Current Events. When I finally came back and looked at the various genocides that have taken place in history and still take place, I got out of that "not my problem" mindset. It's terrible that we have that attitude. We sit here on our asses and take everything for granted and when the time comes to do something meaningul, or to do what's right, we don't budge. I think it's about time we stop being selfish and give people help who REALLY need it.

It is a 30ish minute video to bring awareness to just one of the dozens upon dozens of terrible things happening in Africa right now. Specifically, it is about Joseph Kony, the Ugandan leader of a militant organization known as Lord's Resistance Army, abducting children and forcing them to fight in his army. His "troops" have been accused of numerous war crimes over 20 years. Yes, he has been doing this for 20 years.

Why hasn't the UN or any other nation tried to do anything about it? Pointing fingers and saying how bad it is isn't going to make it go away.

Because they would be forced to fight Kony's soldiers (READ: his victims, children being used by him). This man is just...skreeonk him. Seriously he's forced some of his child soldiers to kill their own parents and eat the corpses.

What do you think Invisible Children is trying to do? They're one of the few organizations I can think of who focus on action instead of sitting around bitching. If you look at the Kony video, you'll see that for US policy makers it's not an important enough issue to commit anything more than 100 soldiers who won't even be doing any combat. The idea is to make it an important enough issue to leave elected officials no choice but to do something about it.

I hear invisible children isn't even that great. Only 32% goes to services and the rest goes to their travel fund and filming.

It's for a good cause and Kony is definitely an evil person, but I think IC is kind of a bit behind on the times.
Several people say their campaign is pretty outdated and what not.
