Vast generalization on my part. I don't entirely think like that. I don't think the human race needs to be completely controlled...but we can't be trusted with everything.

Yes, we generally support legalization of drugs, simply because there is something fundamentally offensive to us in the idea that the government (or any external power) has a greater right to control your body than you do.

Maybe its the evil dictator in me...or, there's nothing else it could be...but I think humans need an external force to control them most of the time. Why? Because we do REALLY stupid things. Yes, some people are stupid. They'll make stupid decisions. Hell, I've made plenty, I can assure you. However, I've made a personal value judgement that deems personal freedom to be worth the extra responsibility it entails. Libertarianism is not an easy route to follow, but more like a difficult path that leads to greater self awareness and achievement if one can endure the trials along the way.

The opposing view, that it is better to keep people hemmed, keep them behind the guardrails of life, and assure them safety and security in exchange for a less personal path to fulfillment, is perfectly sound as well. I simply wouldn't want that for myself.

My personal Libertarianism contains some major socialist strains (mainly in medical care, food, housing; the basics), but balances them out with much greater independence in other areas. As part of a study on Utopian literature, I wrote a short narrative in the style of Edward Bellamy or William Morris that was intended to visualize what a truly Libertarian government might look like. Goddamn History Channel. When you're a history major, the History Channel is just ruined for you. There are just too many historical inaccuracies for me to sit through... I'm aware that nobody else cares. Only I could get pissed at the History Channel. But I felt like having a tiny rant.

Did you watch America: The Story of Us on History? How does that compare?

Haven't watched that, though I'm aware it's one of the more popular ones they've made. I would imagine it is exactly the way Crocodile described it though. Most of the History Channel shows perpetuate romanticized inaccuracies of the past. Of course, it's only natural that they choose that over historical fact. If you can make something shocking, romantic, fantastic, etc., it's probably going to bring in more views. But that's what bugs me because a lot of history is amazing just the way it is. I get the same thrill from reading about certain historical groups as I do from reading fantasy or sci-fi.

The only things I can stand to watch on History Channel anymore are Pawn Stars and American Pickers.

Well the History Channel is like a 101 course, you get a good little amount of basic information. It gets people interested and they learn more. I watch it a fair bit, when there's nothing else on.

I can take Edutainment at face value though, I can understand why you might not like doing that.

I was in an Xbox LIVE party with a fan of the Generation 1 Transformers. So I told him that I prefered the Movieverse over all the others.

Biggest mistake ever.

He started rambling about how Michael bay screwed up the continuity and that a "True fan" would know that everything the movies do is wrong.

Michael bay can do whatever the hell he wants regarding the continuity of HIS UNIVERSE. He bitched about how Sentinel isnt supposed to be alive and that in G1 Megatron killed Sentinel, and how Bay is evil for messing with The Fallen's origin. Well no shit! Cause you know, ITS NOT G1. Again, Bay can take liberties with the continuities when making his films. Then he kept rambling on about how a "true fan" wouldnt like this this and that, and how a "true fan" would like G1 above all and think everything else is evil.

Im gonna say it now: I dislike G1. I've heard the comics are pretty interesting, so I may check those out. But that is as far as Im going into the G1 continuity. I've watched the cartoon, I cant get into it at all.

Lately, work.

The day shift guard has a tendency NOT to keep track of the ins-and-outs of people (a major function of our joB) because he's too busy shopping on Craigslist, talking to his girlfriend on the phone or smoking. So far he's been caught 3x doing this in less then a month.

And the third shift guard doesnt seem to think getting here alittle early for your shift is a good thing (even though I show up about 25 minutes early). Im not going to spend time giving him a run down on shit going on because he cant get here alittle early to here it. And he also was probably sleeping when someone left the back gate open last Thursday, meaning the lot was not secured. And he blamed me.

...I need a vacation.

Yes, I'm talking about every toku/anime/anything nerdy fan's worst nightmare, the retards that make fun of us for simply liking Godzilla or just Japanese stuff in general. I've been having to deal with embarrasment and ingnorence for as long as I can remember, just 'cause I like Japanese stuff and nothing more. Not because I'm annoying them, or bullying them, just for a stupid thing like that. And its all because I was very open about liking Godzilla in elementary school for Christ's sake. Ever since then, all I here is "OH YOU LIKE GAYZILLA HERP DERP!1!!1!11!!" and "LOL IS ThAT POwEr rANgeRS!! HoW oLD ArE YoU?!!11!." I never even bring up Gozilla or Kamen Rider (ect,ect) at all unless I'm bored and draw a picture when I have free time. I NEVER even REFERENCE it otherwise.
Then they support non-bulling assembalies in school saying that they're nice to everyone...
I can't take it anymore. The next time I here something like the examples above, I might snap. I think one day I'm gonna yell at someone and thats just going to make me look even worse.

Speak for yourself, man. I've never had to deal with any of that and I've always been outspoken with my interests. It's hardly my worst nightmare. Is it annoying when the occasional retard badmouths something I enjoy for stupid reasons? Definitely. But I'm never persecuted for it.

I can relate to you all too well. I was picked on a lot in grade school for liking Godzilla and what not. It was horrifically unfair to me. I still have psychological scars from those years (and I don't remember most of my childhood because of it).

Listen, bullying happens. It always happened and will continue to happen. I learned to get over it and move on with my life. I was alienated for awhile, but that allowed me to focus on myself and develop my personality.

You shouldn't care what they think about you or your interests. Do you have friends with similar interests, or even just regular friends that don't? Spend time with them. Ignore the others.

I think fans are their own worst enemies. A few of us already treat each other like crap so it's like the idiots outside going "LOL you watch Barney DERP" are kinda redundant, and it's much more personal as fans actually get to know each other and learn what sets each other off where as some douche bag doesn't know you personally so he doesn't know what sets you off and just repeats stereotypes that we already heard a million times before and gotten over and don't care anymore cause it's like hearing a 5 year old say "poopy head".
