Amphibious Mechagodzilla?

Postby Megaton17 » Fri Mar 02, 2012 4:49 am

I was thinking about how Mechagodzilla (in my mind) is supposed to be a weapon that can fight Godzilla on his own level, if not more so.

Seeing that Godzilla can swim, I always wondered why this ability was applied to MG. It must be very frustrating for G-Force to see Godzilla slip into the ocean and get out of their reach. Sure, the Super X 2 could submerge, but it is definitely no match for Godzilla.

Basically I'd like to see a Mechagodzilla built to counter Godzilla in every way. It could have a breath weapon that neutralizes Godzilla's atomic fire or more physical weapons/attacks. I think an amphibious Mechagodzilla would be a great threat to Godzilla, a powerful weapon that is able to follow him as he goes to rest in the ocean.

The manga version of the Heisei Mechagodzilla could operate underwater; though its beam weapons were nonfunctional when submerged.

Kiryu appeared to be somewhat amphibious.

Huh, I never knew that. Is the underwater scene available on this site's comic book section? I've always wanted to see an underwater fight between Godzilla and Mechagodzilla. I think we also need more underwater fights in general.

I believe the entire scene was put up.

As a kid, I has alwasy assumed Mechagodzilla was capable of swimming. Even now, I consider it likely that the G-Force designed MG to amphibious anyway.

All MechaGodzilla's fail in being good mechs because they lack the ability to be completely amphibious.

In fact, it makes the most sense. Godzilla is amphibious. MechaGodzilla could actively engage Godzilla underwater without any damage to human constructs.

No one thinks about the Seatopians. This is how that whole Megalon/Monster Island sinking mess started.

I mean, they built their own sun while underwater. They aren't to be skreeonk with is all I'm saying.

That would be a good way to reintroduce an evil, alien-made Mecahgodzilla- a swimming fortress that hides out in the ocean. The entire alien base could be underwater.

A underwater battle with Godzilla/another monster and Mechagodzilla would be cool. Plus it's supposed to be one of the anti-Godzilla weapons, it would make sense to have it combat effective anywhere, land, sea, and air. Hell even space if they need to deal with a space monster.

That could work. I didn't care for the idea of an underwater movie at first, but I suppose there really is a lot Toho could do with that. Aliens, lost civilizations like Seatopia or Mu, aquatic kaiju like Manda, Ebirah, Gezora, etc., submarines like Atragon or Gotengo... plenty of good movie ammo there.

As for the possibility of an amphibious Mechagodzilla... I don't know. It makes sense, but I suppose I'm too used to seeing him as a land-based machine. If the military was going to make a robot to hunt Godzilla underwater, I'd rather see one built specifically for that purpose, like a Mecha-Ebirah or something.

Well it's not like he's always on land. Both Showa and Super-Mechagodzilla did do some shooting at Godzilla while flying. Kiryu surprisingly rarely did that.

^ True. A land and air-based machine, then.

:eh: Mechagodzilla doesn't look like a salamander or a frog to me... wait...
I wouldn't recommend Mechagodzilla being amphibious, it doesn't feel right to me.

It would make sense for an anti-Godzilla weapon to function underwater. If you wait for Godzilla to appear on land, you could be risking property and lives.

Not to mention there's really no telling where he'll show up next and they want to kill Godzilla not let him swim away and recover. Mechagodzilla can fly and has used this abillity in the past while fighting Godzilla so why not also let it swim? If you're gonna make an anti-Godzilla weapon you want it to be able to take him on anywhere including his home turf. Land, sea, and air.

At the very least, arm MG with an advanced depth charge weapon that it could drop while flying over the area of sea Godzilla is.

Yes, at least. Smoke him out of the water. Even the Super-X 2 used really strong missiles to force Godzilla to the surface.
