Postby G-fan 27 » Sun Mar 04, 2012 4:31 pm

three questions-

1) did classic media release any other japanese kaiju movies besides the godzilla collection and the rodan/war of the gargantuas double feature ?

2) i already got the godzilla collection should i get the the rodan/ war of the gargantuas double feature , and if there is any other kaiju movies they released would you recommend those ?

3) what do think of the releases yourself, not exactly talking about the movies themselves but how classic media did in releasing these movies ?

No.

RODAN and WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS are both Toho classics, but you should probably only get them if you're interested in getting them. RODAN comes with a fantastic documentary about the Godzilla series and the people that made the movies, so I think the set's worth purchasing for that alone.

It's nice to have the Japanese versions and commentary tracks for each film, but I think the transfers are average at best and the US versions are hit-or-miss. The positives outweigh the negatives in my opinion, and I'm impressed with the effort that Classic Media put into the discs.

Gojira looks fairly awful. The only saving grace about that release are the extras. The reconstructed American versions fair much better than MB's Frankenstein Conquers the World, but it's still not the real deal.
Every film should have at least one animal attack.

If you want Gojira just get Criterion's Blu-ray. It's terrific.

I have that, and Classic Media's release. I won't throw away the latter because of the extras.
