Yeah, I never did understand why they kept referring to him as a cyborg. Mechagodzilla's a machine in both Showa, and Heisei film, the millennium films maybe since he contains the bones and DNA of the original Godzilla inside him.

There's always the off chance Showa Mechagodzilla's "skin" was stolen from Godzilla and grown. We're never really told what it is.

Speaking of Terminators and Mechagodzilla, everytime I see Kiryu collapse his hand into a drill I'm reminded of the T-1000 turning his hands into weapons.

"Cyborg" is thrown around pretty loosely in older science-fiction. He may be using "cyborg" in reference to how it's a machine emulating a living creature. However, Mechagodzilla Mk. II does share a brain with an actual cyborg.

I think what is more interesting is Showa Mechagodzilla's A.I. The Simians don't control him like a mech; they give him orders and he carries them out whatever way he feels like doing. Only in emergency situations did they take direct control.
