Destroy All Monsters: Add King Caesar, and Titanosaurus to it, and probably Gigan, or Mechagodzilla to give Ghidorah more of a fighting chance, have Mothra in adult form, and show more of Manda, Baragon, and Varan.

Godzilla vs Hedorah: Make it more serious, by getting rid of all the animated scenes, and the part were Godzilla flies.

Godzilla vs Gigan: Get rid of stock footage, give it a more serious tone, have Gigan use his eye laser, and probably replace Anguirus with Rodan.

Godzilla vs Megalon: Get rid of stock footage, get rid of Jet Jaguar, and replace with him with either Rodan, or Anguirus.

Terror of Mechagodzilla: Add King Caesar in it, and in the near end have Titanosaurus break free of control from Dr. Mafune and team up with Godzilla and King Caesar.

I agree with everything, EXCEPT the Godzilla vs. Megalon and Godzilla vs. Gigan.

Jet Jaguar was fine, change the weird Godzilla slide kick, and cut out Megalon having a mental shit fit and bouncing around everywhere, and maybe add a little more girls.

And Anguirus was perfect in Godzilla vs. Gigan, I would never trade him for Rodan.

I love Rodan, but I'm actually glad he wasn't in the '70's films because, in my opinion, Rodan's suits got progressively worse. He looked horrendous by DAM; I shudder to think of how he might have appeared after that. :freak:

Yeah his beak started to droop, and it looked odd!

Yeah, Rodan looked awfully goofy in Destroy All Monsters, looked like a deranged turkey instead of a Pteranodon.

He looked great here

But in DAM he looked so stupid, drooping beak, big eyes.

In the interest of full disclosure, I admit that there were other minor alterations, and one major one I forgot to mention:

I changed some of the soundtrack around, notably eliminating the Godzilla theme from the film, that three-note brass-blast that reminded me of a drunken sumo wrestler (again, that was personal preference, and I'm not claiming that it is necessarily an improvement). What I DID NOT do, despite the urging of many interested parties, was drop in any music ripped out of other G-Films. Anytime I altered something, it was replaced with music from the actual Hedorah soundtrack.

Also, I merged the A.I.P. dub with video ripped from SONY's dvd, but I retained the Japanese theme song in most instances, while including a single use of the American "Save the Earth".

Interesting! I actually wouldn't mind seeing that one of these days.

I still need to make a version that has the Titra audio synced up with either the R2/R1 video. I have a rip of the Orion LD release of SMOG MONSTER, but I wouldn't mind something that's DVD quality.

No thanks. This wasn't a traditional Godzilla film to begin with, and the film is just fine with them intact.

Make it "more serious" how, exactly? How would that have been accomplished with such a ridiculous plot? The 70's films were primarily geared at children. They didn't need to be serious affairs.

If Rodan was there instead of Anguirus, he would have looked awful, because there is no way Toho would have built a new Rodan suit. Anguirus was used (literally) because the suit was still in great condition.

kaiju115 wrote: Godzilla vs Megalon: Get rid of stock footage, get rid of Jet Jaguar, and replace with him with either Rodan, or Anguirus.

And how would that have been accomplished when Jet is so integral to the plot? The film wasn't even going to be a Godzilla film originally to begin with. It was going to be a solo film for Jet Jaguar, pitting him against Megalon. Godzilla was simply added to increase the marketability.

I agree with you 100%. He looked great in his own movie as well as Ghidorah the 3 headed monster, and he looked ok in Godzilla vs Monster Zero. But in Destroy all Monsters, he didn't look so good at all.

I really would not change anything with these films. I don't want Toho to pull of a Lucas with these films and trying to make them better when they are just fine.

I'm fine with them the way they are. All this "let's exchange one monster for another" nonsense is pretty dumb.

Nah I'm pretty cool with the films they way that they are, imperfections & all. If Toho went back and changed some stuff with these films, some Godzilla fans will get very pissed

Your right Goji, the 70s films were geared at kids. I'm just saying what I would do if I could change certain scenes from these films, like what if Godzilla vs Megalon wasn't originally planned on being a solo film for Jet Jaguar, or what if the Rodan suit was still in good condition. Still, your right about these films.

Actually now that I think of it, I'd probably take out that ackward scene in Terror of Mechagodzilla where Titanosaurus bites Godzilla's face and slings him around.

I would change the cantina scene so that Greedo shot first.

In ''Destroy all Monsters'', I would have Mothra be an adult, and include Ebirah, Maguma, and Kamacurus in the madness. Baragon would also have a larger role, and if the film were made later, have the final battle have Ghidorah, Gigan, Megalon, and Mechagodzilla.

I think the only thing I'd change about the movies is replacing the scenes with stock footage with new footage and giving Baragon and Varan some scene destruction time, convince Toho not to sell the American rights of King Kong vs. Godzilla to John Beck, maybe change the Godzilla suit in Son of Godzilla and make the human aspect of Godzilla Raids Again on par with the first entry. Other than that, I think the Showa age is fine the way it is. There's a couple of lost projects I would've loved to have seen materialize and there might be some stuff I don't like, but I'm happy with the way the series turned out and I wouldn't want Toho to pull a George Lucas and alter any of their films.

Toho also wanted to use King Kong but the idea never got far due to the budget issues with this film.

Just throwing that out there.
