You're partially correct.
When PepsiCo owned Taco Bell (along with KFC and Pizza Hut), it was against company policy to bring in outside brand drinks - Coca Cola was actually named in the employment literature. If you brought it to work, you were required to pour it out. If you did it again, you faced termination. Off the clock, you could do whatever you wanted.
PepsiCo owned Taco Bell for awhile. Then it split into Tricon (now called Yum!). PepsiCo itself doesnt not own Yum! (see spin-out), but has a lifetime supply agreement and non-compete (with exceptions to other brands and franchises) with PepsiCo.
