Considering Star Trek XII is nowhere near production, yeah, it was about as obvious as LP's Godzilla not coming out next year.

I wish they did not plan out a release date before they start filming and had a screenplay finish. With the Dark Tower movie dead (Thank you Universal for screwing up something that could have been a great film) then they could have the movie out by early May 2013.

My hopes for the movie? More McCoy. He really got shafted - shame since Karl Urban did a great performance as him. Then again, most of the characters were given a shaft outside Kirk, Spock and Uhura.

Too bad we won't see it until next June. It seems like there is a new Star Trek movie on the "2" year for example:

1982: The Wrath of Khan
1992: The Undiscovered Country
2002: Nemesis

Next year was going to be the 30th anniversary of Wrath of Khan and having him in the sequel would have been great. I think we could have the movie by next year if JJ did not direct Super 8 first.

I saw those last night and great to see this movie moving forward. It looks like Cumberbatch will play a villain in the new film, I was hoping for someone like Khan or a Klingon villain.

I rarely watch movies on cable anymore, but I watched the first film on FX the other night and I still love it. I've said this enough as it is but goddamnit I hope the new Godzilla film is a classy sci-fi reboot like Star Trek or Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Despite being huge, Hollywood blockbuster type films I really think they're gonna stand the test of time.
