What happened to Manda's horns?

In Atragon Manda was shown having horns, but when he was on Monster Island in Destroy All Monsters he didn't have any at all, he just looked like a snake with tiny arms and legs. What happend to him?

Different Manda. The first one died in Atragon. This is an entirely new Manda.

...Because he didn't have to. There's no rule that says a new Manda has to look exactly like the first Manda.

Why is the new Varan smaller? Why is the new Baragon smaller? Why doesn't Mothra transform into a moth? Why is Varan not mentioned by name? Why is Baragon blamed for Paris? Why weren't Maguma and Ebirah kept in? Why doesn't Rodan actually fight? Why didn't they have enough money to get King Kong again? Why didn't they have enough money to get all the monsters to fight instead of only four?


*Shurgs* I don't know, why make a movie about giant monsters? Toho probably just wanted to go with a different design or maybe the prop was old and the horns were damaged and had to be taken off or fell off.

I've never thought of Manda as a "dragon". To me, he's always been a giant Sea Serpent.

He was molting , or sick, or something like that I dunno... Toho jerks just wouldn't hold up production until he got his horns right. You know like when Michael Jordan still played ball with a 110 degree fever in that one game? It was something like that.

Obviously the horns didn't survive the refurbishing process. I've been thinking, since Ghidorah's heads were revamped for this film, could they have cannibalized Manda's head to repair (one of) Ghidorah's?

Not at all, nothing about the '63 Manda's head looks anything like Ghidora. There's a passing similarity, but honestly, the type of horns on the original Manda were closer to the '91 Ghidora, and not the crescent-shaped horns of the original King Ghidora suit. My guess is stuff like the whiskers, mane and horns were damaged in storage and it was easier to remove them and refurbish the face than to totally rework the head. This isn't as big a deal as people are making it.

And Manda is a sea serpent. At least I've always thought so.

Looks can be deceiving. King Ghidorah looks like a dragon but he's not, he's just a three headed alien who looks like a three headed dragon. For all we know Manda could be a very old almost dead reptile of snake that grew legs somewhere down it's evolution and it's kind had been mistaken as dragons and sea serpents by people in old times.

Then again are we even told where Manda even came from? All I know is that he/she/it was used as a guard dog by the Mu people.

Manda can be interpreted as both. Don't chinese dragons have a habit of living underwater anyway?
